When I'm older...

i'll wear whatever i want. ................................................. “I’ve apparently been the victim of growing up, which apparently happens to all of us at one point or another. It’s been going on for quite some time now, without me knowing it. I’ve found that growing up can mean a lot of things. For me, it doesn’t mean I should become somebody completely new and stop loving the things I used to love. It means I’ve just added more things to my list.” ................................................ Jeremiah 29:11

I have an obsession with lip products. It’s a problem. A really big problem. How many pink lipsticks do I need? A lot apparently.

I have this thing with finding the next best lipstick. Every time a company launches a new lip product, I think it’s the best thing ever and I buy it… and then I promptly forget about it a month later. But that’s okay. Because now I have 800 lipsticks that I never touch. NO THAT’S NOT OKAY.

With that being said, I really do love this lipstick from Pur Minerals. It really is amazing and I hope I actually wear this one. These are the new Chateau de Vine Mineral Lipsticks. There’s a couple of reasons why I love these lipsticks so darn much. Number one: They contain anti-aging ingredients. Yes, I may be nineteen but it’s never too late to start being preventive. Number two: They’re incredibly moisturizing. You know how I raved about the Estee Lauder lipsticks being hydrating? These are like those ones except 10x better. They’re a bit more sheer too but they still give you quite a bit of color, just with more of a glossy finish. And number three: The shade range is perfect. There are so many pretty colors, anywhere from my favorite bright pinks (mine is in the shade Fashionista) to nudes to corals to berries. I want them all. So yeah, I like these lipsticks. A lot.

Thank goodness for the yellow leaves bringing some color into my outfit… I’m not quite sure why there has been such an absence of color in my clothes lately but I like it.

The top that I’m wearing today is from Brandy Melville. I hate Brandy Melville. There. I said it. I hate their style and their cheap clothing and most of all, their stupid return policy. When Brandy Melville first opened in my mall, I tried to be a basic white girl and buy their clothes. However, I hated everything and only bought one top. I arrived home and realized I really didn’t need this shirt. I had really only bought it because of the excitement of the store finally being in Canada. So, I went to return it and alas, they only give store credit on refunds. I was stuck with this store credit for four months. There was never anything I wanted to buy from there. I finally broke down and figured this dress was the best thing in the store. So, here I am wearing my one piece of Brandy Melville clothing. I have to admit I actually like this dress…. when I’m wearing it my way and not Brandy Melville’s hipster wannabe Californian way.

I wore it more as a tunic with my Zara jeggings. For shoes, I wore my new boots from Call It Spring. They’re a dark oxblood color and I loooooove them! Jewelry was once again kept simple. I really haven’t been that into jewelry lately. I’m not sure why. My watch is from Daniel Wellington. I used to wear this watch all the time, but when I got my Marc Jacobs watch, this one got converted into my work watch, hence all the scratches.

I’m ashamed to say that I’ve been going crazy about shopping lately. It seems like everyday after a long day of classes, all I want to do is go shopping. So that’s exactly what I do. The result? An empty wallet but a ton of cute clothes for Fall.

I feel like this is such a great outfit for school. It’s comfy but still a little bit chic. These grey acid wash jeggings from Zara are the comfiest pair of pants you will ever touch. I paired them with this oversized checkered (does this pattern qualify as checkered?) shirt from H&M. It’s been getting chillier now so I wore my new jacket with this outfit. I have been looking for a jacket with leather sleeves for quite some time now. I have this weird obsession for anything with leather detailing. I found this coat on sale at a local boutique in Edmonton called Bamboo Ballroom and I haven’t stopped wearing it since.

My boots are from Target, believe it or not. I think I got them on clearance last year for $10. I thought I wouldn’t wear them much but they’re turning out to be the perfect pair of booties. I also included my backpack in this post. Most of the outfits I feature on my blog are the ones I wear to school but I usually don’t show you my backpack. It’s from Matt and Nat and I love it to death. The only bad thing is that after a year of me lugging it around campus is it’s starting to break down and I’m crying. I’m now on the hunt for an even cuter backpack. Will I find one?

If I could be anybody, I would choose to be Lauren Conrad. To say she is my woman crush, would be an understatement. Ever since watching her on the Hills, I’ve grown to admire her so much.

I was anxiously awaiting her wedding day for a long time. Ever since seeing her engagement ring and simply gorgeous it was, I couldn’t wait to see what she would wear on her wedding day. And she did not disappoint.

There is something about all-lace wedding gowns that I will always love. They are just so girly and feminine and not over the top. I’m convinced that my future wedding dress will be a cross between this one and the one the Olsen twins designed. But who knows. When I was 12, I wanted a mermaid trumpet style of wedding dress. I still have a very very very long time to decide so that could all change.

In Lauren Conrad’s Us Weekly Magazine feature, it talked about how she kept her makeup very simple for her big day. She wore her signature look: winged liner, luminous cheekbones and light lips. She looked just like herself, but on the other hand, she’s never looked better. Flawless. And her hair. Oh Lauren’s hair. Her ombre wavy locks are always so pretty.

So yeah, I’m just going to continue fangirling over Lauren Conrad because she is just way too perfect.

Fall always hits so suddenly. One day the leaves are on the tree, I’m wearing shorts and skirts and then bam! The leaves fall and out comes the sweaters and the scarves.

I feel like this might just be the most autumn-y outfit I’ve ever worn and I couldn’t be happier. My favorite part about my outfit today is my scarf. I have been looking for this scarf for so long. I’ve seen it everywhere except it was always sold out at my Zara. However, as I was in the store today, I spotted it in the corner and cried. I’m so excited to have found it. I then went directly to H&M to buy this camel colored sweater to match the scarf. For a bit of warmth, I layered this navy vest. I’ve been really into vests lately. They are such great layering pieces and I love how they look with sweaters.

For my purse, I’m wearing this large black top-handle bag from Just Fab. I’m not sure if it’s just me but once the colder weather hits, I like to carry larger purses. I’m also loving the boots I’m wearing today. I saw these at Aeropostale and I thought they were the cutest things ever! However, it pains me that they have a heel. At university, we have this really slippery slanted floor leading down to the trains so I would die if I wore these shoes. But they’re so cute so I couldn’t pass them up. I’ll just have to find other places to wear them other than school.

So that’s my outfit. I’m basically a walking pumpkin… or a Pumpkin Spice Latte. I’m just the epitome of Fall. And I love it.

When my mom took a look at my outfit today, she commented that I’ve been changing up my style lately. And it’s true. My style has evolved quite a bit over the years. I used to wear so much lace and pink and ruffles and super girly pieces. While I’m still girly, I’ve definitely been trying to add a bit more sophistication and edge into my outfits. One of these days, I’ll show you guys the outfits I used to wear in junior high… let’s just say I’m very thankful this blog wasn’t around back then.

Zara has the perfect fall clothing lately. I’m obsessed. I recently got this navy striped button down. It’s such a perfect, classic shirt. I also got a pair of black denim from Zara. I have been looking for the perfect black jeans for quite a while and I just wasn’t having any luck. I really like this pair though, they are cuffed at the bottom to show the teal underside. Plus, they fit me super nicely. I find that Zara jeans just understand my body. Overtop, I’m wearing the Liam vest from Noul, I know, I wear this way too often but it’s my favorite.

I’ve also been noticing that there has been an absence of color lately in my outfits. One day I’ll be a walking rainbow and the next day, I’ll be dressed all in black. I’m nineteen, I’m not going to stick to a style just yet. To add some color, I’m wearing this satchel from Stella Rittwagen. I like the navy with the hot pink. For shoes, I’m wearing these booties from Spring. I’m still so glad I found the perfect pair of black boots. They really are perfect. And they’re surprisingly comfy! I did a good job finding these ones. Cue the applause.

As the last bits of summer are fading, I’m trying to prolong the sweaters and fall colors as much as possible. It was 27 degrees (Celcius) so I was still able to wear my regular summer attire. I have a feeling this may be one of the last days this year that I will able to dress this summery. Am I sad? That is to be decided.

I just got this new tank top from Langford Market. It’s so pretty and although I’m able to wear it now without any sort of jacket overtop, I’m super excited to bring it into the fall time too and layer cardigans and blazers over it. I paired it with the most summery pair of pants I own. For shoes, I wore my nude sandals with a chunky silver heel. I totally forgot I owned these shoes and I’m a bit embarrassed to say, I’ve only worn these a couple times this whole summer. Oops.

Accessories are once again very simple. I really haven’t been changing them at all. My Kate Spade purse and my Marc Jacobs watch are all I need! I also wore my new wooden cross necklace from 9th and Elm that has my favorite verse engraved on it. I also finally changed my nail polish on my toes. I had a bright pink gel polish on them all summer but I figured that I needed something a tad bit darker so I painted this bright cobalt blue on them (and my fingernails too!).

This outfit will forever be known as the outfit I was wearing when I learnt that my best friend is a bitch. Notice the present tense, she really isn’t a nice person and I have absolutely no problem saying that. Throughout my life, I was always scared to lose friends. I didn’t let fights bother me. I moved on, forgetting our fight, thinking our friendship was more important. But, sometimes friendships are toxic. When they are harming you and causing you more pain, then it’s time to move on. It’s not easy but some friends just don’t have your best interest at heart and that’s okay. You don’t need them in your life. I have some of the most wonderful friends in my life so why would I need one really horrible friend? I don’t.

Sometimes, there are miscommunications in life. At the end of the day, life is too short to hold grudges or be upset over things that aren’t going to affect you long term.

Anyways, on to the outfit. My sweater is from Zara and I absolutely love it. It’s lightweight and comfy and I feel like it turns this plaid skirt into a little less school-girl and a lot more chic. I paired it with black tights, my newest black booties which I’m so glad to have finally found the perfect pair! They’re as simple as they come, with no decorations, no heel, no nothing. Just black boots. Accessories are simple as well. My Kate Spade purse and regular jewelry was all I needed for this look.

So kids, instead of taking my style advice, take my life advice. If a friend doesn’t feel right in your life anymore, then it’s time to move on. It will be hard but if it’s the right thing to do, then the future will be a happier place for you. I promise. However, sometimes friendships are more important. When a friend hurts you, it can be hard to see the happier times you’ve had with them. But if you’ve been friends with them for five years, it’s not worth it to end a friendship over something less significant. Friends over boys. That’s all I have to say.

Every time Benefit releases a new product, I get so excited. They’ve always been one of my favorite cosmetics brands. I find everything so innovative and cool and I truly love the majority of their products. I’m a big fan.

Most recently, they launched the Majorette Blush. Benefit usually just sticks to their boxed powders ands stains for cheek products so I was surprised that they launch a blush that didn’t fit into these categories. It is a peachy coral cream to powder blush. Usually I don’t like cream blushes because I find that they don’t blend well onto my skin on top of my foundation. However, because this one is a cream to powder formula, i found it very easy to apply and rub into my skin. It didn’t have a sticky feel to it, it felt like a very smooth, matte cream. Another thing that’s especially cool about this blush is that it is designed to be worn alone or under another blush for an added pop of color. The way I see it is that it act like a primer to intensify a blush, just like an eyeshadow primer helps make an eyeshadow appear more opaque and vibrant.

School has commenced and I am not happy about it. So I wore all black to tell the world just how depressed I am about having to wake up at 6am. It’s not a fun time, I promise.

You might be wondering why I’m wearing a dress to university. My mom sure was. I received a very long lecture on how I should be putting more effort into learning and studying than my outfits. Here is my rebuttle. It takes the same amount of time to put on a dress or put on jeans. And I’m just a very girly person so I will keep wearing dresses and skirts and curling my hair thank you very much.

I really love this dress. I picked it up from Zara and it’s the perfect little black dress. It has a high neckline that balances out the short skirt, with cute sleeves. I paired it with the Liam vest from Noul. It’s been a struggle not to wear this vest with every single outfit. It’s the awkward transition between summer and fall so I wore some very sheer tights and some dark green suede booties to add in a tiny bit of color.

My jewelry was very basic today. I wore my favorite necklace from H&M and my regular watch and bracelet. I haven’t been switching up my bracelets lately. I’m boring, I know. BUT, I am wearing a new purse today! To celebrate surviving my second week of my second year of university, I allowed myself to buy this gorgeous Kate Spade purse. I needed a new grey small purse and this one was on sale and it’s so darn cute. I love it!

AND PS. did you know that you get a student discount at Kate Spade?! 15% off! They told me they don’t advertise this discount, hence me never knowing this existed until now. So yeah, don’t say I didn’t tell you.

In my makeup bag, I keep very little makeup. I don’t feel the need to touch up my makeup when I’m at school except for a little powder and whichever lip product I’m feeling that day. I mostly just keep the necessities that I may or may not need on a daily basis. I like to be extra prepared when I’m on campus.

In addition to the few pieces of makeup I do carry, I also take blotting sheets, a nail file, hand cream, and hand sanitizer. And of course excess hair elastics and bobby pins because how often do I lose those? Very often indeed.

As a new addition, I popped these adorable Cupcake Panties by Affinitas into my bag. So, if you’re like me, you might be wondering why these would be a necessity to carry in your makeup bag. However, they do come in handy. What if you surprisingly get your period? What if your friend says something funny and you pee your pants? What if you get to school and you discover you have underwear lines? Or how about for those non-surprise moments like after a workout or swimming? These are the perfect solution for all of these moments! Plus, the panties are discreetly hidden inside the cutest cupcake packaging ever. You won’t have to worry about one of these falling out of your bag. Your secret is safe with me. The Cupcake Panty is available in hipster and thong style, with sweet, fun prints and colors. They’re pretty darn cute. Cute underwear is one of my absolute favorite things.

Want some of these cute panties for yourself? Plus a $1000 scholarship. Underwear AND money? What more could you want? Affinitas is holding their Scholarship sweepstakes through 9/30/14.

So to enter:

Go to WWW.WEARACUPCAKE.COM to complete the registration form and then follow Affinitas on your favorite social media: Facebook, Twitter (@AffinitasIntima), or Instagram (@Affinitas). It seems like everybody is obsessed with primers these days, but not just the regular primers that are gonna smooth out your skin and help your makeup last all day. Oh no, there are primers that do so much more.

I am not an active primer user. I used to wear a primer in junior high. That was six years ago (that’s a long time ago oh my). I started out with the Smashbox Color Corrector primer that was tinted green to eliminate redness and then I switched to the Makeup Forever primer, but to be honest, I never noticed a huge amount of difference. They were just another step to my lengthy makeup routine so I dropped them. I kicked them to the curb.

Primers have come a long way since them, like the newest of the Smashbox primers, this Pore Minimizing primer. Smashbox is the self-titled king of primers. With over ten different kinds of primers under their belt, it would be safe to say that Smashbox knows what they’re talking about when they’re launching their newest primer.

This pore minimizing primer strives to decrease the appearance of pores, while also soaking up excess oil for a matte look. It seems to have a fairly similar goal as the famous Benefit Pore-fessional. However there are some differences between the two. The Smashbox Pore-Minimizing primer is not tinted, it’s a clear base and it’s a lot thinner than it’s Benefit competitor. Although do not worry, it still has the silicone feel to it, which will give you the smooth baby-soft skin I know you all are looking for.

So what are my thought on this? I don’t like primers. I don’t wear primers. But I know that 90% of makeup-users are obsessed with primers and this one definitely has it’s advantages. It’s one of the better ones.

Check it out here

Five minutes before these pictures were taken, I was almost kicked out of the building. This was my last day staying in Canmore, and the weather decided to be evil and rain all day. So, I was forced to relocate and take pictures inside. I found this cool rec centre in town and for those who find yourselves in Canmore, definitely go visit it, it’s called Elevation Place. Anyways, dogs aren’t usually allowed in buildings as I was told by the manager. But as soon as he stopped to pet Oakley, he said we could stay. I swear I could get away with robbing a bank as long as I had Oakley by my side. (Attn police: don’t worry I won’t actually rob a bank.)

I really love this tank top that I am wearing. It is from the cutest online store called Caralase. Everything at this store screams my name. I need everything. My shirt is a loose black tank with crochet detailing on the hem and the neckline. It is so pretty! It also comes in grey and ivory but I definitely love how the lace stands out on the black version. Because it was a bit of a chillier day in Canmore, I was forced to pair it with a sweater. This sweater is from Bethany Mota’s collection at Aeropostale and I am way too obsessed with it. It just feels like you’re wearing a blanket and who doesn’t want to wear a blanket all day?

The necklace that I am wearing holds a very special place in my heart. It is from an online marketplace called 9th and Elm. It is a wooden sideways cross on a silver chain where I engraved Jeremiah 29:11. Ever since I started my blog a couple years ago, I’ve had this passage stated on my homepage. I have always found comfort in this verse. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Whenever I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing in life, it reminds me that God is watching over me and He already has a plan for me.

If there was one place that I had to live for the rest of my life, I would choose New York. However, if New York wasn’t an option, I would definitely choose Canmore. For all you non-Canadians, Canmore is the cutest town you will ever see. It’s buried in the mountains, about 20 minutes outside of Banff. It’s so peaceful here and recently, we took Oakley (my dog) to the town and he loved it just as much as me.

How can you focus on my outfit when there are mountains right behind me? The mountains are distracting me with their beauty. For those who have never seen mountains in person, you need to get your butt over here.

Anyways, my shirt is from a cute boutique called Simple Addiction. It’s a lace high low shirt with three quarter length sleeves and a low, open back. I’m usually not the biggest fan of open back shirts but I thought this one was very tasteful and pretty. I paired it with these orange shorts from Gentle Fawn and added strappy, snakeskin sandals. For jewelry, I wore my Fossil watch (duh!), a new bracelet from Simple Addiction with pretty blue stones, and my favorite grey and gold bangle from J.Crew.

So folks, I hope to see you all in Canmore when I’m there next. It really is the best place on earth.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am not your typical camping type of girl. I hate bugs. I hate nature. I hate bad weather. I hate dirt. I hate a lot of things okay. But for some strange reason, I don’t hate camping. I really don’t. You would think that camping involves the majority of the things that I can’t stand, but somehow, I am able to get past them and still have an enjoyable time. So for my fellow camping amateurs, here is what I learned while camping. Take these tips and run with them and you too can survive a camping adventure (maybe). I wish you luck.

  • Don’t forget the marshmallows. How did we manage to forget the marshmallows when camping? We have no idea who was responsible for that misfortune (ahem Kevin), but all we do know is that we had a lovely fire, roasting sticks, graham crackers, chocolate and yet no marshmallows to make s’mores. What is camping without s’mores? Nothing.
  • Bring socks. Lots of socks. You might actually be enjoying camping until you wake up the next morning and it’s pouring rain and your shoes are soaked and your poor littles toes are freezing and threatening to fall off. Nothing feels better than putting on a dry pair of socks. I promise.
  • Makeup wipes are your best friend. I am the biggest preacher of making sure you wash your face every night. But lugging your Clarisonic and six-step skin care routine into the wild may not be the best choice. You don’t want to be high maintenance after all. So grab a pack of makeup wipes, the Simple Brand ones are my favourite, they are super gentle for sensitive skin and were able to remove all my face and eye makeup.
  • Fashion does not exist in the wild.  As a wannabe fashion blogger, I know you would probably expect me to dress in the perfect camping ensemble. I’m talking a Free People flannel, distressed denim, sneaker wedges (HA), and a leather baseball camping. But no, there was none of that for me. Comfort is all that matters. I wore a t-shirt, jeggings, and old Converse. Yes, that’s right. I think that’s the plainest outfit I’ve ever worn. Aren’t you proud? I didn’t even accessorize.
  • Get over your fear of outhouses. As much as I wish there is plumbing and running water on campsites, there isn’t. So, suck it up and do your business in that hole. The first time is the hardest I promise.
  • Pitching a tent isn’t as hard as it looks. Team work is absolutely key. I think we probably set the world record for pitching a tent in the shortest amount of time. Where is the Guinness Book of World Records when you need it?
  • Bathe in Bug Spray. Mosquitoes love me. It’s quite unfortunate. And it’s even more unfortunate when I am allergic to them and swell up when I’m bitten. I know what you are thinking, “Tay, how did you survive camping by a lake where there are swarms of mosquitos?” My answer for you is to be prepared. I took every precaution there is. First, don’t eat bananas, eat oranges. Apparently mosquitoes love banana and not oranges, who knew! Secondly, stuff your pockets with dryer sheets and stuff them in your pockets. I’m thinking of making a onesie out of dryer sheets. I have no idea how these fend of mosquitos. Thirdly, don’t let any bare skin show. I don’t care how hot it is. Wear tight knitted fabrics that won’t let those pesky suckers in. Lastly, reapply bug spray every five minutes. If you can’t smell your bug spray aroma from 5 miles away, you’re doing it wrong.
