Perfectly Imperfect

So, I don’t like these photos. I don’t like the outfit. I especially don’t like the jeans. I don’t like the angles. I look heavier than I would like to. The sun is way too strong in my face. The shadows are all wrong. The outfit, nor the photos, is doing me any favours.

Normally, I wouldn’t post these photos. They would just all go in the trash and be deleted from my memories forever. But, just with makeup review on ze blog, I post about the good AND the bad. So it doesn’t seem right to me to just post about my good outfits. Sometimes I mess up and I wear an outfit that isn’t flattering or isn’t the cutest. And I take photos that aren’t the prettiest and don’t have an artistic flair. But that’s just life. I’m 24 and I’m still learning about what I like to wear and what I shouldn’t wear. When I’m Older, I will wear better outfits.

And although I don’t particularly like this outfit, there are parts of it I really like. Actually come to think of it, I love all of these items separately. I just don’t love them together. Funny how that works. I just got this jacket from Simons after seeing a verys similar one at Aritzia for THREE times the price (ugh Aritzia, why you gotta be like that?). It’s a super cute jacket for spring with the slightly cropped fit and the lightweight crepe material. But the thing that really caught my eye about it is the colour. I have decided I need way more green in my wardrobe and this light pea green is a perfect place to start.

For the rest of my outfit, I’m wearing a sleeveless sweater that is honestly one of the best layering tops I own. It looks so great under any jacket and any blazer. The jeans are Citizens of Humanity Rockets of course. I picked up these jeans back when I worked at Aritzia almost four years ago and they are still in such great shape! They haven’t stretched out or ripped! That’s how you know they’re worth every single penny (and why I have over 10 pairs of Citizens now).

So yes, I was cringing as I edited these photos and I will probably cringe once these photos go live on the blog. But I think it also helps me to accept the fact that I’m not always going to look my best. The image that I am so used to portraying online is the absolute best version of myself. I pick the photos that are angled just right so I look my tiniest, I pick the photos where you can’t see my acne, I pick the photos where I have freshly washed hair and I pick the photos where my outfit is on point. But that’s just not always the reality. Sometimes my skin is covered in acne, my hair is greased back in a pony and I feel like I should lose 10 pounds. And that’s okay. Nobody always looks their best. It’s important to sometimes take a step back from this “Influencer” world we live in where everyone on social media is picture perfect. Because even those influencers have their days where the last thing they want to do is have their picture taken.

So I think I’m going to do this more often. Put less pressure on always trying to look my best. It’s a little refreshing in a way. Sure, I still love to do my makeup and my hair and feel good about myself but some days, I just don’t give a damn. And that’s a-okay with me.
