Tarte amazonian clay blush review

Oomph, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted on ze blog. Two weeks to be exact. First, my schedule was thrown off by COVID-19 and quarantine and then I wanted to mute myself on both social media and my blog to let black voices be amplified as I tried to educate myself and stood in solidarity with those fighting the injustice. Please follow the link here to find resources and ways you can help.

I picked up this Tarte 9 Ways To Shine blush set at the start of quarantine as a little pick me up and a treat to myself. I knew that I wasn’t going to be wearing much makeup over the duration of the pandemic since I was working from home so I wanted a special little something too look forward to for the times I would do my makeup. We all need some retail therapy right about now.

The Tarte 9 Ways To Shine Cheek Wardrobe ($45CAD) is comprised of three stacks with highlighters, blushes and bronzers. I have been a huge fan of Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes for years now so I was super excited to pick up a set of a bunch of shades. I had picked up the Tarte Blush Book (review here) two years ago which is a palette of 8 blush shades and I absolutely loved it EXCEPT that it was too large to be practical and was incredibly hard to store. Therefore, when I saw this blush stack concept, I knew it would be much easier to travel with and fit in my makeup vanity.

Each of the cheek stacks are stunning. The gold stack has the shades Frosty, Slay Bells, and Shimmering. Frosty is a gold-toned highlight, Slay Bells is a peachy pink and Shimmery is a sparkly coral. The rose gold stack consists of Snow Kissed, a pink-toned highlight, Prize, a neutral pink blush, and Peppermint Mocha, a shimmery bronzer that is a little too dark for my skintone. The final stack, the gunmetal one, has NYE, the most gorgeous burgundy highlight, Decked Out, a bright fuschia, and Mistletoe, a deep plum. I love that all three stacks are varied and comprised of different tones.

One of my special tricks for these stacks is actually mixing all three shades together in the stack to create the perfect cheek colour. I love a shimmery blush so although the highlights in these stacks are slightly too dark for me, I can make it work by combining it with a blush shade! And the staying power of these blushes are amazing thanks to the Amazonian Clay that provides 12-hour wear. Tarte blushes are truly the best.
