For the first time in my life, I have come to the realization that maybe, just maybe, I have too many pairs of boots. As soon as the colder weather hits, I stop wearing all my other shoes and just stick to booties. I guess it’s because booties are ultimately my favorite footwear. But this fall, I decided to change that. I finally got the pair of flats that changed my life.
Maybe changed my life is a bit of an overstatement. But, I haven’t been this excited about a pair of shoes in a long time, especially a pair of flats. So, these flats have been all the rage this season. This style of lace-up flats was first made popular by the Aquazzura Christy flats. They are absolutely stunning, but they are also $675. Do you know what I could buy with that? A whole course at university. That’s what.
Then, in the summer when I went to New York, I found the sandal version of these flats at Topshop. They were super cute as well but made my feet look fat. I just couldn’t have cankles now, could I? So I sadly left those ones behind and returned to Edmonton.
Once in Edmonton, my search for these shoes didn’t stop. I found a pair at Anthropologie but these ones cost $178. Better, but not good enough. Next, I came across some at Zara that were super cute and only $50! I thought I had hit the jackpot. So I added them to my online basket, but I just couldn’t hit the checkout button. So alas, they sat in my shopping cart on the website for quite some time.
Then, on the Monday after Thanksgiving, I got a text message from The Bay saying select Topshop items were on sale. (And yes, I get text message alerts from The Bay. I’m not a shopaholic, I swear.) I decided to have a quick look online and low and behold, I came across the perfect flats, on sale for $30, with free shipping. Is there anything better? No, no there’s not. I ordered these flats as quick as I could, not allowing any chance for them to become sold out.
They arrived to my house in a speedy couple of days. I was so nervous to try them on. I hate ordering shoes online. It never seems to work. But I slipped them on and they fit perfectly, a little wide but that’s never a surprise with my super narrow feet (see, I don’t have cankles). So yes, that is my super long story about how I found my new favorite pair of shoes for the Fall that have finally kicked my bootie obsession.
Today I paired these shoes with one of my favorite tops that has surprisingly never been shown on the blog. There is quite a story behind this top as well. I always admired it in American Apparel. I probably tried it on a dozen times but was never able to hand over the cash for it. Although it was cute, the price tag just didn’t seem reasonable for such a simple shirt. Then, the shirt sold out in store and online and I thought I would never see it again. Fast forward to my birthday and my best friends (#TFK) hand me a Sephora gift bag. I was a bit confused at first, why would my friends buy me makeup from Sephora when I work at Shoppers Drug Mart and have a very nice discount? Then I opened the bag up and pulled out this shirt. At first I had no idea what it was, but then I unfolded the fabric and all the memories of this shirt came flooding back. It’s a special shirt.
For the rest of my outfit, I wore my beloved ripped Topshop jeans and a long black duster jacket. I wear this jacket so much. It’s the perfect light coat for a transition piece heading into the colder months. It just goes with everything. Plus, it has a slightly business-y look with the lapels so it fits my new image. Just kidding, I ain’t no business woman yet. Emphasis on the YET.
