My Favorite Books of 2015

I’ve never really talked about books on my blog before and that’s really unfortunate because books are a great, great thing. Being in university, I don’t get the time to read much anymore and that makes me sad. Whenever I have a free moment to read, I’m usually reaching for a textbook instead of a novel. However, my love of reading was suddenly returned back to me during Reading Week (wow, I just realized now what a coincidence this is) when I was in Canmore and found myself in a Chapters picking out a new Sarah Dessen book (more on that later). So without further ado, here are my favorite books of 2015!

Willow- Julia Hoban: This is one of those books that I always read over and over again. It’s about a girl, Willow, who accidentally kills her parents when she’s driving them home and gets into a car crash.

Gone Girl- Gillian Flynn: Everyone loved the movie, but I definitely loved the book more. It even has a different ending (slightly) than the movie and tells more about what happens afterwards. If you’re a fan of the movie, definitely check the book out!

“The Making of a Story” A Norton Guide to Creative Writing- Alice LaPlante: I was given this book when I won an award for my writing at university and it’s such a fascinating book! So far it has been incredibly helpful in giving me a push to keep writing my own novel. If you like to write, you’ll love this guide!

Packing for Mars- Mary Roach: All my life, I have been so obsessed with Space. If I could leave for Space right now, I would do so without any hesitation. Space has always fascinated me and this book definitely continues that fascination. It’s a non-fiction book that details all the things about space I’ve ever wondered like how astronauts get chosen and how they bathe in Space.

What on Earth are you Wearing?- Chloe Quigley & Daniel Polluck: This is a fun little book that I picked up on clearance at Homesense a while ago. It has all these cute illustrations inside with an‘encyclopedia’ of fashion throughout the years.

How to Look Expensive- Andrea Pomerantz Lustig: This is another book that was on clearance at Homesense. (Homesense seriously has the best fashion books for super super cheap). This is such a good guide to makeup, hair and clothing that teaches you what to splurge on and what to save on without looking cheap. It seems like an odd idea to write a book about, but it’s actually brilliant.

New York City Guide- Louis Vuitton (buy here): This was the one souvenir I wanted from my trip to New York. Yes, it is a $65 book, but it was well worth it. It’s a beautiful keepsake with tips and tricks about my favorite city in the whole wide world.

The Moon and More- Sarah Dessen: This was the book that I picked up in Canmore during Reading Week that awakened my love of reading. Sarah Dessen has always been my favorite author. I am probably outgrowing her books now that I’m twenty, but her stories always speak to me and this one was no different.

Saint Anything- Sarah Dessen (buy here): This is the newest Sarah Dessen book and definitely my favorite. I couldn’t have related to this plot more. Although it’s story wouldn’t seem like my life (it’s about a girl whose brother killed a boy drunk driving), but I found myself nodding (and crying) along on every page.

So those are my top nine reads for 2015! Now that school is almost out for the holidays, I would definitely recommend picking up one of these books (or all nine) to read over the break! Nothing is more relaxing than sitting down buy a fire with a good book and a fuzzy blanket. Ugh, why can’t I be doing that right now? Right now, finals are more important. But in a week and a half, I can guarantee you, that is all I will be doing.
