SkinCeuticals Skincare Review

This post is very so overdue, but I always feel like I have to take an extra long time testing out skincare. Skincare is always such a difficult thing to judge right away so I really like to take my time with it so I can give you all my most honest and true opinions!

A couple months ago, I was invited to the Rao Dermatology Clinic, the first SkinCeuticals Advanced Clinical Skin Spa in Alberta. I was so pumped for two reasons: first- I absolutely love skincare and second- I highly admire Dr. Rao. Dr. Rao was actually the first (and only) dermatologist I went to when I was having trouble with my acne and he helped with my skin immensely! At the event I was introduced to the SkinCeuticals skincare line and I was very impressed with it. I received a couple of products to try out- The Simply Clean gel cleanser, the Metacell B3 emulsion, the Serum 10 and the SPF 50 Sheer Physical UV Defense Sunscreen.

I found the Simply Clean Cleanser to be pretty standard. It did leave my skin feeling squeaky clean and ridding it of any makeup and oils. I did, however, notice that my skin felt much smoother and softer afterwards due to the five hydroxy acids that help to gently exfoliate the dead skin cells! This is a great cleanser for oily skin, but if you have dry skin, I would stay away from it. It might be a bit too drying.

Maybe it’s because I’ve never really used an emulsion type of moisturizer before, but I was not a huge fan of the texture of the Metacell B3. It felt almost too light and slippery to be effective, however once I tried this out for a couple of weeks, my thoughts changed. This daily emulsion helps to reverse the loss of surface elasticity fine lines and brighten up dull and uneven skin tone. I don’t have any wrinkles yet, but this this always a good product to start helping to prevent any sings of photoaging. What I did notice was a more refined skin texture and my complexion was definitely brightened.

This Serum 10 is such an interesting product. As my friend, Rae (http://thenotice.net), pointed out, the smell is definitely something different. She accurately described it as a mix between rotting coffee grounds and soy sauce. But in all seriousness, this serum has been amazing! It contains a combination of L-ascorbic and ferulic acids to provide antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. I have been applying this to my face every morning and it gives my skin such a healthy glow! I especially love this product because it’s great for sensitive skin! I have been noticing my skin is getting more and more sensitive as I grow older so I loved that this serum didn’t make me break out at all like I sometimes do with other anti-aging products.

Last but not least is the Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 Sunscreen Fluid. This sunscreen reminded me of my beloved La Roche Posay Ultra-Fluid Lotion. Both absorb into the skin nicely while leaving a matte, non-oily finish. They are so lightweight! Plus, even though the SkinCeuticals Sunscreen is a physical sunscreen instead of a chemical one, it doesn’t seem to leave a white layer to the skin because of the transparent titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. However, I still have one problem with sunscreen. In order for sunscreen to be effective, you are supposed to apply it ever two to three hours. But sadly, that has never worked for me seeing as I wear it under makeup so I can’t just keep reapplying throughout the day.
