I have an obsession for blushes. They are easily my favorite makeup product. And yet, for some unknown reason, I don’t have a huge number of them in my collection. Actually, that reason is known. There are few blushes I see that I get excited about. It seems like every brand releases the most boring, predictable colours. I like blushes that are more unique! I’m tired of the rosy pinks and mid-toned corals.
And this Chanel Joues Contraste Blush in the shade #160 Innocence isn’t necessarily unique either. It’s seems simple at first. just a pale pink with some gold shimmer thrown in. But it was a colour that was missing from my collection. The only other light, pale pinks I have is Tarte Dollface and Marc Jacobs Reckless (my all-time favorite!).
Aside from the colour choice, I was also very curious to see how Chanel blushes stood up to the competition. And I have to admit, I was slightly disappointed. Maybe I just had high hopes, but the formula doesn’t seem to be anything special. But then again, how special can a powder blush formula be? All that I really care about is the colour and it’s definitely pretty so I’m happy. This shade is perfect for pairing with a darker eye or darker lip when you want to keep the rest of the face simple. It’s perfect to just throw on. But, if you want a bolder cheek, this blush is surprisingly buildable and transforms into a deeper rosy pink. It’s gorgeous.
But, let’s just talk about the packaging for a moment. It slightly angers me that the actual blush product is so small when the compact is larger. I would have much rather they skipped out on the tiny (useless) brush and the velvet pouch (all they do is collect dust) and just made the blush full size. But I guess it’s a luxury blush and that always seems to be the trend. Velvet pouches are oh so trendy.
