Contouring and highlighting has been all the rage for the past couple of years now. Although I have expanded my horizons and slowly learned to love these processes, I still have one major dislike and that is cream contours and cream highlighters. No matter how hard and long I practice, I can never get my contour and highlight to look as good with cream products as it does when I use powders.
Recently, Revlon launched this new Photoready Insta-Fix Contour and Highlight Duo that was a big surprise for drugstore makeup! They were one of the first drugstore brands to start venturing into the land of highlighting and contouring. This duo set is great in theory. It comes in six different shades (Fair, Light, Light Medium, Medium, Medium Deep and Deep) with the three lightest contour shades containing the same pearly pink highlight and the three darker contour shades containing the same golden highlight.
My set is in the shade #002 because I am the most pale girl you will ever see. But let’s talk about the contour stick first. The contour stick included in this set isn’t actually specifically for contouring. You may recognize it as Revlon’s original Insta-fix Foundation Stick. I know that one of the great things about foundation sticks is that they’re extremely versatile and can be used as a contour, but the problem is that this foundation stick is incredibly oily so it just slips right off your face when you try to apply it. It doesn’t work well as a contour to chisel those cheekbones at all. Plus the shades included in these sets are extremely skewed. I am horribly pale, so you would think that any contour shade would be dark on me. However, the contour shade in this set was almost too light for me. Although it was a couple of shades darker than my skintone, it definitely isn’t my preferred shade for a contour.
But, the highlight included in this set is gorgeous. It almost made me throw away my dislike for cream highlights. It’s the most gorgeous shimmery pink. I absolutely love pink-toned highlighters so I was definitely a sucker for this one. It is very creamy so it does blend into your skin nicely. But, as with any cream product, I find that it still moves around my foundation underneath. I just think I will never be the right candidate for cream highlighters. However, if you can get around the formula of cream products, this highlighter is definitely something you might like! And lucky for you, they are sold individually, so you can skip the silly duo and just buy the highlighter on it’s own.
