A Burnt Orange Kind of Colourpop Haul

I wanted to get this post up early today because Colourpop is 20% off the whole site today because of Cyber Monday, so now is the time to shop! It’s now or never folks!

It’s been a hot minute since I last talked about Colourpop over here on ze blog. And that’s because I really haven’t tried much from Colourpop since they last sent me a couple of shadows to try out (blog post here) two years ago. Update on that post: Desert, one of the shadows I received, is still one of my staple shadows to this day. It’s a satiny matte in a warm mid-tone brown shade. It’s absolutely perfect and I’d recommend all of you to get it. Since that post, I’ve really only tried their lipliners and Lippie Stix (the lipliner (Brink) is to die for, the Lippie Stix (Thirsty) I barely touched), so when Colourpop announced free shipping over $50, I knew I needed to hop on the bandwagon and order a few goodies.

So, yes, the makeup in this post was all paid for by me. It is not a sponsored post. Don’t get your panties in a twist, y’all.

Colourpop is easily known for their Ultra Matte Lip liquid lipsticks and like every other Kylie Jenner wannabe on this planet, I too am obsessed with liquid lipsticks lately so I decided to order a couple of shades to put to test. At first, I was just going to order individual ones but then I came across one of the Lip Bundles in the shade Up and Away. You may take a quick glance at these shades and come to the conclusion that they are definitely not the stereotypical Taylor shades, but folks, I’m changing. I have been OBSESSED with peachy, orangey, and rusty colours. Burnt orange is the new shade to describe me. So when I saw this set with three colours that matched that end of the rainbow, I new it deserved a place in my heart makeup collection.

The set comes with two Ultra Matte Lips in the shades Lovebug, a deep Terracotta and Mama, a supposedly “true” burnt orange. The third lippie is one of the Ultra Satin Lips in the shade Calypso, a pinky nude. I have heard such mixed reviews about the Ultra Matte Lips, but everyone seemed to love the Ultra Satin Lips so I thought it would be a good way to try out both of the formulas. But, I am so sad to say, I hate both formulas. There, I said it. Colourpop, you have disappointed me. I am fairly used to matte liquid lipsticks. I have quite a few from various brands and although they too are extremely drying, I can usually work with them. But these Colourpop liquid lipsticks are by far the most drying ones I have come across. I applied Mama (the supposed burnt orange) and within minutes (yes, minutes), I had to take it off. I usually don’t take of a lipstick after I put it on so this was rather life changing and disappointing to me. Honestly, I don’t think I will ever try this formula again from Colourpop. Plus, they flake off in such a weird way with tiny little particles of powder rubbing off. The shades are pretty however, but definitely not identical to how they are pictured on the site. Lovebug is so much deeper and more brown in person and Mama is more of a bright orange, which I was a lil’ disappointed by. But, if you do want a true burnt orange, check out Smashbox’s liquid lipstick in Out Loud. It’s perfection.

I wish I could say that I liked the Ultra Satin Lip better, but unfortunately, that just isn’t the case either. The Ultra Satin Lips are a more creamy formula that doesn’t dry matte, hence they are not smudge-proof. Usually, I can totally deal with a lipstick not being smudge proof, but this one annoyed me greatly. It literally rubbed off on everything and because it’s so pigmented, I had little smears of it all over my face. It wouldn’t even stay within my lipline. It was just far too messy for me. I don’t know if I’m just being picky because everyone seems to absolutely love these, but this just isn’t the lip product for Taylor.

However, let’s turn this negativity around, shall we?

Just as my friend was about to place the Colourpop order (group orders are the bomb, saving on that shipping cost y’all), I made an impulse decision and decide to add this blush in the shade Bardot. It is the most gorgeous burnt orangey, red copper blush with flecks of gold I have ever seen. I’ll admit that this was a very risky buy for me. After all, look at that shade, it’s so dark! I’m so pale! You would think it would be an unlikely combination. However, I read a review on the website from a girl with fair skin like my own and she said it was the most beautiful blush she had ever tried. So with still a lot of hesitancy, I decided to give it a whirl. And I’m SO glad I did. This blush is everything I have ever wanted in my life. It applies so lightly and gives me the most gorgeous (yet still natural) glowy peachy, burnt orange shade. Plus, it has superb staying power. I will definitely be trying a few more blushes from Colourpop in the future.

So here’s my advice. Skip the Ultra Mattes (unless your lips are as smooth as a baby’s bum and won’t show a single dry crack). Skip the Ultra Satins. Go right for the blushes and the lipliners. You won’t be disappointed.
