Are sheet masks the best invention ever? Yes, I believe they are. I remember growing up, my friends would always bring my back various face masks whenever they would travel to asian countries. Back then, you literally couldn’t find sheet masks ANYWHERE in Canada, at least not the places that my sixteen year old self shopped. But thankfully, for all you skincare fanatics out there, sheet masks have started to pop up more and more places. However, it’s still a bit hard to find the true Korean and Asian face masks (which I swear are so much better than any American ones), but luckily, Take Good Care, who is a new Toronto-based Korean skincare company, is here to help us Western folk out by bringing the best Korean brands to Canada!
They sent me an assortment of sheet masks and I had the best time trying them all out. My skin has never felt more rejuvenated. But before we jump into the wonderful world of sheet masks, let’s first clarify exactly what a sheet mask is if you’ve never tried one before (if you haven’t, you’re seriously missing out)! So, sheet masks are basically face-shaped fabrics (usually cotton), paper or a gel-like silicone soaked in a concentrated serum. You usually leave them on for about 15-20 minutes and then rub/pat the excess serum into your face. Don’t forget that last step! I used to just wash off the serum (before I knew anything about skincare), but it’s definitely worthwhile to pat it back into your skin. The sheet prevents quick evaporation of the serum and extends the time frame the ingredients require to penetrate deep into the skin!
So now that we’re clear on what exactly a face mask is, let’s go over some of my favorites and the specific benefits that they can provide for you! Because definitely not all sheet masks are the same.
Cremorlab Aqua Tank Hydro Plus Water-Full Mask: This mask is super cool because it is isn’t made out of the normal fabric that is common to sheet masks. It is called a Hydrogel Mask that is able to stay moist for longer so you get the maximum hydration benefits! it is also made with marine collagen to provide moisturize deep in the skin cells! This one is definitely awesome for when you’re skin is feeling extremely dry.
Goodal Premium Snail Tone-Up Hydro Gel Mask: This one is also a hydro gel mask, which I might just prefer over a typical fabric sheet mask. However instead of just being for hydration like the mask above, this one also provides an immediate cooling effect andbrightens the appearance of dull and uneven skin tone and texture.
Blossom Jeju 2 Step Soy Nourishing Essence Sheet Mask: I had never tried a 2 step mask before so I was super excited to give this one a whirl. The first step is 100% Pure Camellia Oil that you just apply directly to the skin and then you place the second step, which is the sheet mask, overtop. The oil helps the skin to fully absorb the nourishing serum in the mask. This mask is incredibly rich andhelps to reverse common signs of aging like rough, blotchy or uneven skin tone
Mizon Enjoy Vital-Up Time Anti Wrinkle Mask: This sheet mask is soaked in a hydrating essence containing snail mucin (AKK snail slime), which is known for its healing properties by supporting skin cell regeneration.
Cremorlab White Bloom Triple Bright Floral Mask: This mask was definitely one of my favorites! It’s brightening, refreshing and hydrating and although the package does say it also “lightens skin tone”, there are specific laws here in Canada that prevent companies from stating that. I always love brightening face masks because they really help in fading some of my scars and red marks left over from my acne fighting days.
Innisfree It’s Real Squeeze Green Tea Mask: This is the mask I’m wearing in the blog post today and I have to admit, face masks aren’t the cutest things. But they sure make your skin look cute afterwards so that’s all that matters. This mask contains green tea which is a fantastic antioxidant so your skin will feel amazingly smooth and moisturized after.
Mizon Intensive Skin Barrier Eye Gel Mask: These aren’t just any eye masks. Instead of being the standard under-eye patches, this mask covers your entire eye area including the bridge of your nose and cheeks. Think a superhero mask. You’re basically a superhero. It helps to get rid of dark circles, even out skin tone and reduce puffiness while also providing hydration to the eye area!
The sheet masks on Take Good Care are already pretty reasonable, but if you want to save even more money and strike a good deal, the site has awesome bundles of Innisfree masks (findhere) and Mizon masks (find here) so you can try out all the different varieties!
