So I just did a post talking all about the Paula’s Choice skincare that I would be taking with me on vacation this holiday season, but I felt it would be essential to share some new holiday makeup as well! I’ve been using various skincare items from Paula’s Choice for almost a whole year now and I’ve absolutely loved everything I’ve tried and yet, I’ve never given their makeup a try. This isn’t a complete surprise because Paula’s Choice makeup isn’t a huge part of their brand. They only have a couple of makeup items, but to be honest, I enjoyed their makeup almost as much as I love their skincare! So let’s get on with the review!
Blush It On Contour Palette
I have had my eyes on this blush palette for quite some time now so I was super excited to get to try it out. My favorite part about makeup is definitely the blush, I’m a blush fanatic so I am always on the hunt for some new shades to add to my collection! This palette comes with a bronzer, a highlight and four blush shades. I was a little disappointed with both the bronzer and the highlighter. The bronzer tends to be a bit patchy and can be hard to blend fully in, but the shade works perfectly as a contour. It’s not too warm toned which I like, so I’ll definitely reserve it use as a contour shade instead of a typical bronzer. The highlight is chalky and if you apply too much, it definitely gives off too much of a white cast which I honestly didn’t think was possible on my super pale skin (since it’s already as white as can be). However, if you apply this highlighter sparingly, this problem doesn’t occur and it gives you a really pretty glow!
I really love the selection of blush shades in this palette. There’s a gorgeous orangey coral called Delicate Coral that I can’t wait to use in the summertime. It’s the perfect coral shade that I had been looking for ALL summer. Just my luck that I would finally find one in the winter. Dusty rose is the perfect everyday colour. It’s a light pink that looks super natural on the cheeks. Peony is a tiny bit darker and will give you more colour. My favorite is Soft Mauve that has more of the purple and blue toned undertones to it. It’s gorgeous. All four blush shades are very pigmented and blend out so nicely!
4 Mattes & A Glam Eyeshadow Palette
I absolutely love my matte shadows so I never pass up a chance to try yet another matte eyeshadow palette and this one immediately captured my eye. It has four neutral matte shades with one sparkly purple-magenta shade. When I first got this palette, I thought I would never touch the one sparkly shade and just stick to the matte ones, but to my surprise, I absolutely love putting the sparkly shade on my bottom lash line. It adds the perfect little bit of unexpected sparkle. Thus, it’s going to be the perfect palette to bring to Vegas with me (by the time you read this, I’ll already be in Vegas, yay)! The four matte shades are equally as gorgeous. The lightest shade makes the perfect lid colour while the other three blend gorgeously together in the crease. I have been using only this palette for the past week and it creates the foolproof neutral eye look every time.
Lip and Body Treatment Balm
I have the world’s driest lips and it drives me absolutely crazy. No matter how many lip balms or serums or masks or exfoliators I try, I can never get rid of the dry skin and flakiness on my lips. So, whenever one of my favorite skincare brands has a lipbalm, I always make a point to try it out. I find that the lipbalms made by skincare companies always work better than just generic ones. This one from Paula’s Choice is actually both a lip and a body balm, but I typically only use it on my lips because I find my body doesn’t get too dry. When I study, I tend to lick my lips a lot (is that weird?), so my lips have been so incredibly dry this week and nothing seemed to help. However, I started to apply this balm like crazy both day and night and it seems to really be helping! But, I’ll keep you posted. I find that a new lip balm always seems to help the first month I get it, but then my lips get used to it and it stops having an effect. It’s like they’re a mutant.
