Maison Jacynthe

I am a huge huge fan of French and Quebec makeup; all of the French Canadian brands I have tried (Lise Watier, Marcelle, Annabelle, etc), I have absolutely loved! Plus I always feel good about supporting Canadian companies! So when Maison Jacynthe, a cruelty-free skincare and cosmetics company based out of Quebec, reached out to me to try some of their makeup, I was super excited to give them a try.

So, before we start, we HAVE to talk about the packaging. I haven’t been blown away by a brand’s packaging in a very long time. Even my mom instantly fell in love when I showed her. Maison Jacynthe sells their makeup pans and casing separately, which normally I’m not the biggest fan of the whole refill system. However, the casing is so beautiful and high quality that I wouldn’t even mind having to buy the two separately. And then, you can always re-use it over and over again when you buy new products from Maison Jacynthe, thus saving your money and the planet. It’s a win-win situation. The cases come in a small, medium, or large size. The small fits just one single eyeshadow pan, the medium can fit two eyeshadows or a blush and the large can fit two of the blushes/powders or four eyeshadows for your own mini customizable palette! I chose mine in the medium size just to keep my blush separate from anything else. The case is made out of a beautiful cherry wood with a magnetized aluminum lid. It is such nice quality and really adds to the appeal of the makeup.

But enough about the packaging, let’s talk about the blush. I love blushes so much so I was definitely excited to give one of Maison Jacynthe’s blushes a try. I chose mine in the shade 01 Roméo because I knew I had nothing else like it. At first, I was a little scared it would be a little too dark and intense for my cheeks because it’s such a deep reddish terracotta colour. But, if you use a verylight hand and blend it in fully, it gives you that perfect flushed cheek look. So, if you have pale skin like yours truly, don’t be intimidated by this blush. It definitely can work on all skin tones! And before I forget, one more thing I must mention is the scent. It’s heavily perfumed without being too strong (think the delicious Guerlain Meteorites scent, but more floral) and it’s an all natural fragrance so it won’t irritate the skin at all! Every morning when I apply this blush, I just have to inhale the scent for a couple of seconds. It’s thatgood.

I also really wanted to give one of Maison Jacynthe’s lipsticks a try. They’re made with Abyssinia Oil, Candelilla Wax and Apricot Oil so they’re super nourishing as well as coffee extract for a light plumping effect. Again, the lipstick’s packaging is just as spectacular as the blush’s casing. It’s a nice heavy weight tube with the same cherry wood cap. It feels so luxurious, yet natural and sleek. I chose mine in the shade 08 Coral, which I was super excited about. I have been longing for a nice coral shade for the longest time. It felt like it was the only colour I was missing from my lipstick collection and this one definitely didn’t disappoint. It’s more of a bright coral with a bit of a sheen to it and doesn’t lean too red or too orange, which is exactly what I’ve been looking for. It’s going to be the perfect lipstick shade in the summer when I (don’t) have a tan.
