I should be studying. I really really should. But alas, my procrastination is at an all time high so what better way to waste time than to talk about some of my favorite concealers? But, as you’re reading this, I’m going to be halfway done my last final of my fourth year of university. So let’s start rejoicing. I used to not wear concealer. To be honest, I don’t really care about covering up my blemishes and acne scars. Everyone knows they’re there so why try to hide them if they’re never going to disappear completely? But with that being said, I’ve found some really great concealers lately so I had to share them with you! I have three different categories: The Brighteners, which are really more of a luminating concealer; the Colour Correctors that are amazing for eliminating unwanted colours on your face, and the Blemish Coverups which I’m pretty sure you can just infer what they do. It’s all in the name.
Brighteners
Guerlain Precious Light– This is my baby. If I had to pick one concealer to use for the rest of my life, it’s this one. The texture is absolutely amazing. Usually I don’t like putting cream products over powder, but this one blends in perfectly without smudging or moving any of the makeup underneath. This can be used either as an undereye concealer to really brighten that area up or more as a traditional highlighter down the bridge of your nose and up your cheekbones to add some light and dimension.
Dior Skinflash– This one is very similar to the Guerlain Precious Light concealer mentioned above with one major difference- the shade selection. The two lightest colours of this (#010 and #020) are a light pastel pink and a light yellow respectively so they do an AMAZING job at really brightening up your face.
Colour Correctors
Covergirl Smoothers Concealer– I have the most veiny eyelids ever. I guess I have super transparent skin there so you can see those purple veins so clearly if I don’t wear any eyeshadow. Not even foundation covers them up. But this concealer is a great neutralizing shade (the shade name is actually called Neutralizer) so it’s the perfect thing for taking away the purple in my eyelids and covering it all up. Plus it works as an eyelid primer too which is always handy!
NYX HD Concealer– This is the #1 concealer. Shit, I just realized I already gave that award to the Guerlain Precious Light. But they’re so different so let’s just say they’re tied for the #1 spot. This is my go-to under eye concealer. I am so pale that I could never find anything that really brightened my undereye circles. Any pale concealer just matched the rest of my skintone. They just don’t make one light enough. So that’s why I love this lavender concealer because it’s such a white-purple shade so it really does brighten and concealer my dark circles perfectly. It’s even better when you bake it with a loose setting powder (I recommend the Cover FX one)
Blemish Coverup
Clarins Instant Concealer– This is the concealer I recommend to EVERYONE at Shoppers Drug Mart. It’s such a beautiful lightweight consistency so it’s not going to get cakey at all. It’s long-wearing and meant for use on the undereye area but I love wearing this one on blemishes because it looks so darn natural. When I had really bad skin, I used to wear this almost like a foundation because the formula was so light. Thank god the tube is a big size for a concealer or else that would have gotten pricey.
Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Concealer– I don’t have too much to say about this concealer. It’s great. Comes in many shades. It’s got a good coverage. It’s not too heavy. I like the doe-foot applicator. It’s just a good concealer all around. Wow, great review, Taylor. I’m so glad you’re a beauty blogger.
Maybelline Master Conceal– This is one of my favorite concealers for the price. It’s under 10 bucks and it’s so similar to the Clarins Instant Concealer that I mentioned above. It has amazing coverage without being heavy. And a little goes a loooooong way. So if you want a cheaper dupe for the Clarins one, definitely go with this!
Dior Skin Nude Concealer– I sometimes breakout from this one, but it’s an amazing concealer so I’m still including it for those of you who don’t have as sensitive skin as me. It’s a hydrating concealer so I love using it when I have those angry pimples that get dry skin around them from using salicylic acid on them. It doesn’t stick to the dry patches and just covers up the pimple perfectly.
