New Dior Lip Tattoo and Lip Maximizers

Dior lip products are some of my favorite lippies out there. The Dior Lip Glow, their Fluid Sticks, the new Dior Addict Lacquer Sticks – they’re all absolutely amazing. So when Dior launched their new Lip Tattoos, I was justifiably excited. The Lip Tattoo is basically a tattoo for your lips meaning it’s a long wear colored tint. It sounded right up my alley, except I have never been more disappointed with a product from Dior. Oh man, that’s pretty harsh. But to stop this whole post from being overly negative, I’m also going to talk about the Dior Lip Maximizers which definitely don’t suck, so look forward to that.

As a very important disclaimer, I must state that I am not a fan of lip stains to begin with, so that might give some insight as to why I hate this product so much. So maybe if you are a die-hard lip stain fan, you might like this! I know that a couple of girls I work with in the Beauty Boutique do in fact like the Lip Tattoos, so take what I’m about to say with a grain of salt.

First of all, the shade range sucks. There’s only four different colours of the Lip Tattoos. They’re named Natural Rosewood, Natural Pink, Natural Cherry and Natural Berry but ironically, there is nothing natural about these shades. They’re all very dark or bright. There’s not a nice nude or light pinky shade in the range unfortunately. Mine is in the shade Natural Rosewood and it looked really pretty in the tube, but when I applied it on my lips, it came out much more dark and berry-toned. Not the nice brown-nude it appeared to be.

But the shade range is not even close to being the biggest problem with these. It’s the texture. It applies very gloopy and uneven on my lips. Even when I try to pat it in and blend it out with my finger, it’s almost impossible to apply evenly. It pools up in places on my lips and sinks into the lines on my lips. All I want is an even coverage on my lips, but I definitely can’t get that with this Lip Tattoo. Plus, as it dries, it gets a very tacky, sticky finish and if you dare rub your lips together, you’re going to end up with an even patchier mess than before. Lip stains are supposed to be easy and effortless. This one is not.

However, the one thing it does have going for itself is it’s longevity. This lip stain is truly like a tattoo, it will last on your lips for forever. I applied a swatch on my hand and it stayed there for a solid three days (I washed my hands regularly, I promise). And if you’re still convinced that this lip stain might work for you after all of this, try layering it under a lipstick as a base or primer. That’s the only way I could see this Lip Tattoodoing a good job because it just doesn’t work on it’s own. Wow, that pained me to write such a negative review. But it fully deserved those words of hatred, I promise.

Let’s move on to a more happy note: the Dior Lip Maximizers. I have always loved these lip plumpers. They are the perfect things to just throw in your purse and re-apply throughout the day. They are available in four shades: a light pastel pink, a peachy pink, a dark hot pink and my favorite that was recently re-released after being limited edition a few years back, a nudey beige called Beige Sunrise. People either hate or love lip plumpers and I am definitely a fan of them. These aren’t too intense however; they aren’t going to sting your lips and make them all numb. A slight tingling is all you will feel. They are formulated with a blend of collagen and marine-based fillers to smooth and moisturize the lips. And as an added bonus, after 15 days of use, your lips will look noticeably fuller and more defined. Y’all know I always love both short term and long term results.

So, if you’re at your local Dior counter, I would strongly advise to pass up those horrid Lip Tattoos and pick up a Lip Maximizer instead. Your lips will thank you.
