I have been on the search for new lip products lately and when I came across Clove + Hallow, they looked extremely promising. The packaging is really what made up my mind on that. The lipstick tube is so sleek and modern with that minimalist aesthetic of a clean white rectangular shape. Because let’s be honest; half of the time, it’s the packaging that sells me on makeup.
The Lip Crème lipstick is definitely a winner in my books. It’s formulated with natural and organic jojoba, castor and sunflower oils so it’s super soothing and nourishing which brings me to my main point with Clove + Hallow. They are a green beauty brand with a Clean15 formulation approach, meaning they replaced thousands of questionable chemicals found in other lipsticks with 15 or fewer safe ingredients. They are also PETA certified cruelty free and vegan. I’m so glad that more and more companies are starting to go this route and hopefully one day, every brand can have these credentials.
But back to the lipstick. I got mine in the shade Desert Rose. This is the colour I have been looking for all my life. It might look like just a typical rosey nude in the photographs, but it is so much more than that. It has a beige-y coral undertone so it has been matching perfectly with my warmer toned and rusty orange eye looks. It’s not too light and not too dark. I’d even go as far to say it’s my perfect nude. This is definitely a colour you all need in your lipstick collection. And for a beauty blogger who has over 300 lipsticks to say that, that means this colour is a special one.
I wish I could say the same about the Lip Velvet, but I have to be honest. I just wasn’t blown away with this one. However, like the Lip Crème, it has the Clean15 formulation with only 10 ingredients that are all totally safe and chemical free. This Lip Velvet is a matte liquid lipstick and promises that in 10 minutes, it will dry down to a smudge-proof finish for all day wear. Now don’t get me wrong, the formula is super great and because it’s infused with coconut oil, shea butter and Vitamin E, it’s moisturizing and comfortable on the lips; quite a surprise for a matte liquid lipstick I must admit. But, this lip colour really doesn’t ever dry down completely. It’s promises of being smudge-proof are a tad misleading. And, the colour (in Napa) just throws me off. I have never been a fan of the fuchsia purples. I just feel like they belong in the 80′s and should have stayed there.
So my advice to all y’all would be to pick up a Lip Crème, but leave the Lip Velvet. The true magic lies in the lipstick (plus the packaging of the lipstick beats the Lip Velvet’s packaging any day).
