Covergirl TruBlend & TruNaked Collection

It’s been a whiiiiile since I talked about Covergirl on ze blog. It’s long overdue I must say. So I’ve noticed that Covergirl has been in the process of changing up their look lately. The bright, colourful packaging is gone and it’s been replaced wth a simple, modern black and white aesthetic. Do I love it? The twelve year old in me says no as I miss my bright green packaged Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara but the actual twenty-three me realizes that change is good and the clean black and white exterior is probably more appealing to the masses. But regardless of the packaging, I was super excited to try some new products they launched recently.

Do you want the good news or bad news first? Eh, let’s get the bad news out of the way first. I always like to finish a blog post on a positive note. The new Covergirl TruBlend Matte Made foundation was destined for failure in my eyes. I don’t like a matte foundation and I probably never will. My dry skin cringes at the thought of placing anything matte on my face. Although it is described as a“comfort matte” finish meaning it’s not going to be overly drying on the skin, I still found it to be too flat and dull and it stuck to any dry patches on my face. In addition, I thought it was really difficult to blend out on the skin and I didn’t find it to be especially long lasting even though it states it’s“transfer resistant” and lasts up to 12 hours. But the worst part was how my skin felt after wearing this foundation for a whole day. I’m not sure if I was allergic to an ingredient in it but my face was so itchy a couple hours after applying this foundation. I couldn’t wait to get it off my skin. However, there are a few good things about this foundation. First, the foundation is oil-free which is always a positive in my eyes. And second, the shade range is amazing. There are FORTY shades. Yes, you heard that right. FORTY. For a drugstore brand, that is insane!! I’m proud of you, Covergirl.

Covergirl also launched a line of concealers to go along with their TruBlend foundations and I’m pleased to say I’m a way bigger fan of the concealers than the foundation. The concealer is called the TruBlend It’s Lit Brightening Concealer which I think is the cutest name ever. And it’s truly“lit” y’all. The concealer is a pen style with a brush that the product is dispensed through. It’s specially formulated for use under the eyes, base of the nose and corners of the mouth to make those skin areas more radiant and bright. It has really good coverage without looking cakey or heavy and it blends out really nicely! All in all, it’s a fantastic concealer that I really have no complaints about!

But of course, we saved the best for last. The Covergirl TruNaked Peach Punch palette is truly a favorite in my makeup routine. Covergirl launched a couple of SCENTED eyeshadow palettes and I’m living for it. I don’t know why my makeup has to smell like something, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. Covergirl came out with a more neutral, bronzey-pinky palette called Chocoholic that smells like, yup you guessed it, chocolate. Honestly, it’s probably a good thing I don’t own that palette because I’d be craving chocolate even more than I already do. The second palette they launched is the Peach Punch palette that smells like peaches. But not just any ordinary peaches. You know when Mattel launched their barbies that were scented? It was that delightful mix of an overly artificial fruity scent with the classic Barbie plastic smell. That is what this palette smells like and I freakin’ love it. But the scent isn’t the only thing that draws my heart to this palette. The pigmentation and formulation of these shadows are incredible. They are the softest, most buttery eyeshadows that I’ve ever felt. The fact that this palette is only around 10 bucks shocks me because it is such better quality than the drugstore eyeshadow palettes I’m used to. And the shades in here are stunning and right up my alley. I love these fun peachy coral shades for the summer!
