Sonic Field Day

One of the first music festivals I ever went to was one that my city hosts called Sonic Boom. It was put on by the 102.9 Sonic Radio Station and it was amazing. It was a three day event always jam-packed with my favorite bands. The first one I ever went to had Foster the People and Arctic Monkeys headlining. It doesn’t get better than that, folks. Except it does.

So Sonic actually cancelled Sonic Boom a few years back and I was devastated. It was something I always looked forward to attending every years. Where else would I be able to see ten of my favorite bands all on one day? But this year, Sonic answered all my prayers and re-introduced a revamped version of Sonic Boom called Sonic Field Day. Same vibe, same idea, but this time only one day as opposed to three. Honestly, I never attended Sonic Boom in it’s entirety so I was totally fine with Sonic Field Day being just for the day.

But what made me so freakin’ excited for Sonic Field Day was the lineup. So listen up kids. Modern Space, Grandson, Black Pistol Fire, Dear Rouge, Cold War Kids, The Glorious Sons, Jimmy Eat World and Arkells. WOW. To say I was pumped for this concert is an extreme understatement. I had never ever seen such a perfect lineup like that one. I rushed out (jk I opened my computer) and bought my tickets and started counting down the days.

But then the email came that would change my life forever.

A bit dramatic, Tay? You betcha.

Now, my blog has given me a lot of opportunities throughout the years and I’ve been incredibly thankful for it. But if you told me 10 years ago that I would write a blog and it would be the reason Sonic Field Day offered me a media pass to see all my favorite bands up close, I would never believe you.

But that’s exactly what happened. Sonic Field Day gave me a press pass and I got to watch the show from in front of the barriers. So you know how every concert has that little bit of space blocked off right in front of the stage where security stands because they don’t want you to stand too close to the stage in case you try to grab the bands? Well, that’s where I got to watch the show. It was unliked anything I had ever experienced. To be that close to The Glorious Sons and Arkells and Cold War Kids and even freakin’ Jimmy Eat World- it was simply amazing. To be taking photos and have them look down at me and wink because they know I’m trying to get the perfect shot- that’s something else. I was a true fan girl that day. So thank you Sonic Field Day for making all my dreams come true and allowing me to see my favorite bands closer than I could have ever imagined. I still get goosebumps when I think about it.

So, to finish up this post, here are some of my favorite songs that I got to experience live that day and ones that you should definitely check out if you haven’t heard them already!

Song Recommendations:

  • First – Cold War Kids
  • The Middle – Jimmy Eat World (still can’t believe I got to hear this one live)
  • Miracle Mile – Cold War Kids
  • Relentless – Arkells
  • Everything is Alright – The Glorious Sons
  • I Heard I Had – Dear Rouge
  • S.O.S (Sawed Off Shotgun) – The Glorious Sons
  • Pen To Paper – Modern Space

Also, if you live in Edmonton/surrounding area, I would highly recommend y’all to come to Sonic Field Day next year. A sick lineup, tons of food trucks and beautiful day spend outside with your friends; what more could you want?
