  • Capsule Wardrobe

For a while now I have been feeling very discouraged with my closet and my clothes. My style has always been rapidly changing. I’m only twenty, what do you expect? But because of this, I feel the need to go shopping constantly, always changing what I wear and buy. The result of this is that I have far too many clothes. Although I love having a large variety to pick from when I get dressed every morning, I have been feeling very frustrated lately. I tend to only wear a shirt a couple of times a year, even if it’s my favorite shirt. And most tops never even get worn within that year. That’s not a good thing at all.

So, this summer I have decided to embark on a challenge. I first learned of the Capsule Wardrobe through the blog, Unfancy. In the simplest terms possible, a Capsule Wardrobe consists of only your most favorite, essential items. Usually they’re around 20-30 items for each season. These items do not include underwear, workout clothes, jewelry, accessories, shoes (thank God!). Everything else you have to throw out or donate. And the hardest part? You don’t go shopping for the whole season. These items are all you can wear per season.

The main reason I want to embark on this challenge is because I really don’t want to buy an abundance of clothes this summer. I will be working at Aritzia where I get a lovely discount. I know that if I don’t set some kind of goal for myself, I will be buying an item every shift. I will be spending more money than I will be making. I need something to tell me no.

So, because I can’t imagine only wearing 30 items this whole summer, I am changing the number to 50. I think that is a very reasonable number for me for four months. As soon as I have a free day this week, I will be cleaning out my closet and really discovering what I want to keep and what I truly love. Everything else will be discarded. I’m having an online blog sale for my rejected clothes so let me know if there’s anything you would like to take off my hands!https://when-im-older.com/shopmycloset

I will be keeping y’all updated on if this Capsule Wardrobe is something that’s going to work for me. Hopefully it will be a breath of fresh air and help me feel a whole lot better about my closet situation!
