  • When I made the scary transition from high school to university, the biggest thing on my mind was how I was going to afford it. Growing up, I didn’t really have any expenses. I spent my money on clothes and makeup, nothing more, nothing less. So when I started university and was faced with the financial burden of tuition, textbooks, all those extra fees, and even the price of food, I felt very lost. I suddenly needed a large sum of money and I needed it fast. It was incredibly scary to log onto my school’s website and see exactly how much money I was about to spend on these four years.

When I first entered university, I didn’t even understand student loans. The whole idea of them seemed incredibly intimidating and scary. I didn’t want to go into debt because of school. I always held the dream of graduating debt-free. But that’s not a realistic dream. School is an investment. You have to invest money into your education and then, when you graduate and find the perfect career for yourself, you can start to reap the benefits of that investment.
