  • Marcelle Lips & Cheeks

For probably the past 6 months, I have kept forgetting to post this review. It’s not that I didn’t like the products, I just kept getting other items that I was more excited to post about. (Sorry Marcelle!). But these products definitely don’t get the hype they deserve. They are the underdogs of the beauty world. For you Americans, Marcelle is a Canadian company, originating in Montreal. There’s not too many Canadian beauty brands in drugstores these days, but Marcelle is definitely one of the better ones!

Let’s talk about the lip products first. I received one of the Rouge Xpression lipsticks in the Pink Mademoiselle shade. This instantly brought a flashback to my ol’ dancing days. I had so many Marcelle lipsticks for stage makeup and apart from the packaging, they haven’t changed one bit, which is definitely not a bad thing. The lipstick itself is creamy and nourishing with avocado and Omega-6 oils, but yet, sadly it doesn’t smell like avocados. I also received the matching Forever Sharp Waterproof Lipliner in the same shade, Pink Mademoiselle. It is one of my absolute favorite things when companies release identical lipstick and liner shades. It takes all the hard work out of finding the perfect matching lipliner. This self-sharpening lipliner mimics one of my other favorite liners, the Smashbox Always Sharp liners (review here). Side note: how did Smashbox not copyright this technology? You would think Marcelle would have gotten in a lil’ bit of trouble for so blatantly copying Smashbox. Or maybe Smashbox copied Marcelle… hmmm. But that aside, I really do love this lipliner. Every time you twist on the lid, it sharpens the pencil so you always get the perfect tip to line your lips with.

I also received a couple of blushes to play with as well. The powder blush in the shade Coral is absolutely gorgeous. However, it’s much more pink than it is a coral. Or maybe it’s more peachy. Peachy pink would be a better name for it. Coral is stretching it. But nonetheless, this velvety blush is so pretty and it applies smoothly and blends out nicely. I also got to try out one of Marcelle’s cream blushes. I REALLY want to love cream blushes. I really do. But, I just can’t get them to work for me. Every time I try to apply one, whether it be with a brush or my fingers, I just end up making them look extremely streaky and patchy and rubbing off a lot of my foundation in the process. If you have any tips on how to apply cream blushes without ruining your makeup, please let me know! This one is in the shade Pink Mademoiselle to match the lippies and it’s such a pretty pink! The texture is lovely as well. If you do like cream blushes, you will love this one! It’s not sticky at all and feels so lightweight! So, in theory, it would work great overtop of your makeup. But unfortunately, it just doesn’t work for me. However, don’t let that sway your decision!
