  • Make It Yourself Monday: The Best Hot Chocolate – Part 2

You may or may not remember (YOU BETTER REMEMBER) that around a year ago, I posted a Make It Yourself Monday post (read here) all about how to make hot chocolate. It was LITERALLY the most self-explanatory post ever. It wasn’t even fancy hot chocolate. It was LITERALLY made from a hot chocolate mix. I LITERALLY taught y’all how to put powder into milk. It was revolutionary. So revolutionary in fact that I am making the exact same post a year later. Well, it’s not the exact same. There are a few secret (not so secret anymore) ingredients this time, so read on!

    1. Start with a small pot on low heat. Duh.

    image

    2. Pour in two cups of milk. Duh.

We are using the Silly Cow Farms Marshmallow Swirl Hot Chocolate mix again. Because it’s the best. And aren’t we all silly cows around here? Right? I don’t know.

    3. Scoop in 2 teaspoons. Nah let’s be real here. Scoop in as much hot chocolate mix as it takes until the milk is a dark brown colour. We don’t want any diluted hot chocolate, ya hear?

OOOOOOH. Secret ingredient time. Honestly, just use Nutella.

    4. This was probably way too much, but my sweet tooth does all the measurements. Maybe try scooping in just half a tablespoon into the milk.

    5. Whisk the mixture until all of the fake wannabe Nutella is melted and smooth.

    image

OOOOOOOH. SECOND secret ingredient time. Sugar Cinnamon is a gift from the Gods. Side note: you know what the best meal is when you’re sick? Buttered toast with Sugar Cinnamon sprinkled overtop. Don’t worry, I’ll be sure to do a whole Make It Yourself Monday post dedicated to that.

    6. A little goes a long way so just a dash will do! HA, who am I kidding? When is a dash ever enough? Just sprinkle in enough until you can smell the cinnamon in the hot chocolate.

    7. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Duh.

Side note: the fact that I was able to pour steaming hot chocolate from a heavy pot into a mug all while simultaneously taking pictures of the act should be applauded. I don’t want to say I’m amazing, but I kind of am.

    8. Top with marshmallows. BUT WAIT- these aren’t just any ordinary marshmallows. I didn’t have any marshmallows in my house, I know what kind of kitchen am I working in?! BUT, I did have S’mores cereal in my pantry (I eat REALLY healthy breakfasts clearly), so I scooped out all the fake marshmallows and dumped them in my hot chocolate.

On a sad note though, my S’mores cereal isn’t really S’mores cereal anymore. Now it’s just graham cracker and chocolate cereal which is just not as good. But I guess you could say this hot chocolate was worth it.

OH MY GOD. I should make S’mores hot chocolate for my next Make It Yourself Mondaypost. Wait. I would just need to add in graham crackers. Hot chocolate already has the chocolate and marshmallows sides covered. Maybe it’s not as innovative as I thought. Then again, when am I ever innovative?

WOW. Is that hot chocolate that you would see in a cute cafe in Paris. I’m so fancy, I know.

My sarcasm and sass were way over the top in this post, I’m so sorry. I honestly don’t know why I felt the need to do a second Make It Yourself Monday on one of the simplest things to make, but it was just calling to me. I can’t ignore what the heart wants, you know? I’m going to end this post before things continue getting weird. On a serious note, this hot chocolate was actually amazing.

Are you going to try out this Make It Yourself Monday? Tweet me (@whenimolderblog) or Instagram me (@taylorlainee) pics if you do! I would love to see how yours turns out.
