I waited quite a long time to post this review of the Guerlain Météorites Pearls of Powder for simply one reason. They’re $75CAD ($62USD). So if I’m going to recommend them, I better be sure I like them.
The Guerlain Météorites pearls are quite the funky looking product, but it is the technology behind them that make them worth the $75 (actually, I still don’t know if they’re worth the $75- that’s a bit of a stretch). The pearls are handcrafted with craftmanship that is only mastered by four people in the whole world.Honestly, I don’t see what would be so hard to form these balls. I should probably be one of those four people who makes these pearls. The Météorites Pearls incorporate Guerlain’s exclusive Stardust Technology, a spherical pigment contained within each pearl. This formula allows the light to diffract upon contact to “envelop the skin in a halo of light”.
Still not sold on the price tag? Yeah, me neither.
I’m not going to lie, I don’t notice a huge difference when I apply these pearls to my face. I use a fluffy angled contour brush to swirl in the jar and then sweep the powder across my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, cupid’s bow, and chin. It gives a tiny bit of shimmer and glow and brightens my face up a tad, but if you’re looking for a strong highlight on fleek, this is definitely not the product for you. Don’t get me wrong, they illuminate your skin beautifully, but it’s definitely more of a subtle, natural look. And for people who aren’t as ghostly pale as me, these pearls of powder comes in two other shades. I have the #02 Clair, but there is also a #03 Medium and a #04 Dore. I’m tempted to pick up the #04 Dore, it makes a gorgeous blush shade on me!
Honestly, I don’t know if I’m imagining things however. Like, am I just subconsciously pretending that it makes a difference to my skin because I feel the need to justify the $75 price tag? Probably.
But regardless of how the powder actually looks on my face, this is truly a luxurious product and that is where all the appeal lies. You get a stunning silver tin that is embossed with an elegant pink flower. Just picture this sitting on your vanity. It’s beautiful. And then you open up the tin and there are beautiful shimmering pearls that smell heavenly. If you have never smelled what the Guerlain Météorites collection smells like, go do that immediately. It’s sweet and floral and probably the best scent in the whole world.
So maybe you won’t see a huge amount of difference in your skin with these pearls but you will definitely feel like a million bucks even if you don’t necessarily look like a million bucks. Have I sold you on it yet? Definitely not.
However you do get a whopping 25 grams of product so does that almost justify the $75? Not yet? Okay.
If you’re not a fan of the whole loose pearls idea, Guerlain also carries a pressed powder version that is equally as beautiful and if you’re really feeling an urge to splurge (that was a beautiful rhyme), you can pick up the Guerlain Météorites Voyage Pressed Compact that is a whopping $210CAD ($179USD). Yeah I have no justification for that price.
