  • HOPPY Halloween

    From Your Friendly Neighbourhood Bunny

Oh my God, I’m so punny. That might have been the best thing I’ve said on this blog in a long time. But we don’t have time to discuss how funny and punny I am. It’s Halloween and I am here to save the day for anyone who doesn’t have a costume yet! So get out of bed, follow my costume advice and have the best night ever!

I am an incredibly last minute decider of halloween costumes. I just can never think of anything good. This year, my friends and I were planning (and by planning, we meant we thought of this like two days before Halloween) to be SWAT team girls. I know, we are so basic it hurts. However, Halloween costume stores are incredibly overpriced and filled with tacky stuff that really didn’t contribute well to our idea. So, then we switched to being skeletons for a split second. And by split second, I really do mean a split second. We tried on these skeleton dresses and they were so horrendous. So, we did what any girl would do the day before Halloween. We dressed up as an animal. Because“in Girl World, Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything else about it. The hardcore girls just wear lingerie and some sort of animal ears” (please please please tell me you got this reference). But we ain’t hardcore and we definitely ain’t slutty. We are just cute and classy bunnies, ya hear?

I was actually a bunny last year as well (Lizzie Mcguire, you are an outfit repeater! Sorry, I really need to stop quoting movies.) but I love these lace ears so much, I knew it would be an awesome costume to be again! I found these ears last year at Topshop and immediately fell in love. They were quite the original costume last year, but this year, EVERY store had identical ears. Apparently lace ears are the hot new trend. My friends who also dressed up as bunnies got their ears from Ardenes. But I know H&M, American Eagle, La Senza and Claires also had some as well!

Because I’m a broke ass college student, I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) spend a lot on the rest of my costume, so I wore all black clothes that I already had. I recently got this top from Zara and I think it’s so pretty! It’s a mesh cropped t-shirt with a crochet cami layered over top. It practically screams bunny, right? I paired it with my leather circle skirt and added my new favorite boots. I just got these boots at Forever 21 and I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about a pair of shoes (that’s such a lie). I love the look of these mid-calf length sock booties, but I just never invested the time into finding a pair. When I came across these ones at Forever 21 for an awesome price, I knew I couldn’t risk leaving them behind. And the best part? They’re insanely comfortable. I partied all night in them and not a single blister appeared the next day. This is a first.

But you can’t be a bunny without a tail, right? My friend, Lynness, had the awesome idea to buy those furry poof keychains and then just attach them to our butts. They turned out so much cuter than the tails they sell at the costume stores and I get to reuse the cute keychain after! I just safety-pinned the leather tag from the keychain to the zipper on the back of my skirt and then tucked the keychain part inside and secured with a black bobby pin! It stayed on all night and I absolutely loved this addition to our costumes! I went with a burgundy tail, but my friends decided that it would be super cute if we all had different colours so they went with navy, white and brown! We are very multicultural bunnies clearly.

So, that’s my costume folks! Yes, it’s basic. No, it’s not original. But I thought it was pretty darn cute. I hope you all have an absolutely wonderful Halloween and definitely tweet me pictures (@whenimolderblog) if you decide to be a bunny as well! We can form a family of bunnies. WAIT. I just googled it and it’s actually called a fluffle of bunnies. If that’s not the cutest thing you have ever heard, I don’t know what is.
