  • PÜR Bare it All Foundation and Brush:

    Updated Thoughts

I very rarely make a second review on a product that I’ve already tried and talked about. Usually my original reviews are thorough enough. However, after I wrote my original review on the PÜR Bare It All Foundation and the Skin Perfecting Foundation Brush, my thoughts drastically changed and after talking with my friend, Mookie, we felt it was necessary to fill y’all in on what we really think about the products. But, before you start worrying, let me just say that I still absolutely love the new foundation and brush, but just not in the way that they’re marketed.

So, PÜR launched the Skin Perfecting Foundation brush and Bare It All foundation at the same time and advertised that they were the perfect combo to be used together. So naturally, that’s how I tried them. And although there’s no reason why they can’t be used together, it felt like I had a mask of foundation on my skin. The foundation was far too thick and full coverage while the brush was too dense and firm. Thus, when the two were used together, it created a very thick layer of foundation on my face, which I’ve never appreciated. However, if you are the type of person to love a full, full, FULL coverage foundation, then by all means, use these two together.

But, I (like many) am the type of person to like a full coverage, yet still lightweight, foundation on my skin. So, after a bit of trial and error and a lot of experimentation, I figured out the optimal way to use the brush and the foundation, both of which I still love.

Let’s start with the brush. Because it’s so dense, I absolutely love using it with a thinner, more liquid-y foundation. For example, the Dior Nude Air foundation that is basically like water was always too thin to use with a Beauty Blender and was instantly sucked up by a sponge and other foundation brushes left it looking way too streaky. But, because the PUR brush is so densely packed, it blends the liquid into my skin flawlessly. Another thing I absolutely love about this brush is that because it’s so big, I can literally apply my foundation in less than a minute. Yup, that’s right. One swipe on each cheek, a swipe on the forehead, down the nose, and blend into the neck and ears and you’re all done. It’s honestly a saviour for those days when I start work at 8am. I highly recommend this brush to be added into anyone’s brush stash.

And now on to my beloved Bare It All foundation. This is a very thick foundation, but using it with a damp sponge (I love the new EcoTools ones) solves that problem. It effortlessly blends it out and thins it out a tiny bit while still maintaining that full coverage look that I love. It creates a perfect, even layer all over my face. By using a damp sponge with the foundation, it allows you to use a lesser amount of foundation while still achieving that full coverage complexion. With this method, I am able to cover up all of my blemishes and imperfections, but unlike when using the Skin Perfecting Foundation Brush, my natural skin is still able to shine through, so it doesn’t look like I’m wearing a mask of makeup. Instead, my skin looks flawless, just as PÜR intended it to.
