  • Kristin Ess Haircare

To put it simply, I have a girl crush on Kristin Ess. She’s a celebrity hairstylist (who does Lucy Hale’s hair so you know she’s the real deal) who came out with her own haircare line. She’s the quintessential #girlboss. And if there’s anyone who has the credentials to make a haircare line, it’s her. She really knows her thang. And because us Canadians tend to get everything last, this line has actually been sold at Target in the States for a couple of years now, but it’s finally launched in Canada exclusively at Well.ca(use code whenimolderat checkout for $10 off)!

The Kristin Ess Hair line is actually super extensive. There’s over twenty five different cleansing and styling products all designed to do very different things for your hair but have one thing in common. They will all make your hair look amazing. And can we just talk about the packaging for a second?! Because woweeee this is my dream aesthetic. The pink and black and grey tones look so minimalistic and appealing. I’m a big fan, y’all.

So to start off with, I got the shampoo($14.97CAD)and theconditioner($14.97CAD)in The One Purple line. These are colour correcting products designed to neutralize brassy tones in blonde hair. Now my hair isn’t exactly blonde. It’s more of a dark blonde or a very light brown but if there’s one thing I love, it’s ashy hair so I was super interested to see what a purple shampoo and conditioner would do to my hair. And I’ve never dyed my hair before but this line canbe used on naturally blonde hair so that’s A-OK! And I could definitely see the difference these purple tinted products made on my hair! They gave my hair such a beautiful ashy blonde colour. I found it suited my skintone much better!

But what I was even more surprised about was how the shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel. They are so moisturizing and smoothing. I literally experienced no frizz with this duo. And they add so much shine and illumination to the strands. I don’t think my hair has ever looked healthier. I felt like Kristin Ess had just personally washed and styled my hair for me.

I also got to try some styling products in the range. The first, the Air Dry Crème($17.97 CAD), is what everyone needs ASAP. If you just want to air-dry your hair and not have to style it after, this is the product for you. It smooths, adds shine, separation and texture and gives you that effortless, polished look. It took away any frizz and made my hair look AMAZING without even straightening or curling it. If you do want to style your hair a bit more though, I recommend using the Weightless Shine Working Serum($17.97 CAD) that is also a miracle worker. It’s smoothing, taming and moisture locking while also adding intense shine to the hair. You can also work it throughout dry hair as well to add even more shine and smoothness!

One of my favorite types of hair products lately is a good texture spray. I find it makes a world of difference when curling my hair. It adds that messy beachy look to otherwise too perfect curls. So I was super excited to see that Kristin Ess included one in her line. This is the Dry Finish Working Texture Spray($17.97 CAD) that has a gorgeous matte finish while instantly volumizing and builds textures throughout the roots and ends of the hair.

But the most talked about product by far from Kristin Ess Hair is the Rose Gold Temporary Tint($14.97 CAD). Yes, you heard right. Rose. Gold. You spray this pink liquid into your hair in the shower when it’s damp and then wash it out one to two minutes later and you’re supposedly left with a pastel blush tint (tint NOT an opaque hair dye) to your hair. Sounds magical right? Now, once again, I do have darker blonde hair so i was a little unsure to what I would see after using this product. BUT GUYS. It works. Very subtle. But it works. It almost gave me that strawberry blonde look. And I’m digging it. Check out the photos above and if you compare them to my usual hair colour, there’s definitely a difference. I’m not imagining it okay! And it was so much easier than I thought to apply. Literally took less than five minutes to change up my look!

One last thing that I want to mention about Kristin Ess Hair is that all her products contain this nifty thing called Zip-Up Technology™. It’s this proprietary strengthening complex designed to “zip-up” split ends while targeting weak areas of the hair, smoothing the appearance of damaged cuticles and helping to protect hair from environmental stressors and color fade. Everyone needs that so I’m super happy it’s an extra benefit included in all her products!
