  • The Battle of the Sunscreens

It’s a known fact that you should be wearing sunscreen everyday. Regardless if it’s the cloudiest day and not a ray of sun is to be seen or if it’s the evening and the sun is just about to go down for the day, you should be covering your skin in sunscreen. But nobody is perfect and putting on sunscreen just seems to be too much of a hassle for me most days. However, I’m trying to get better and remember to put on sunscreen every single day. Something that is helping greatly with that is finding a sunscreen that I truly love. There is nothing worse than putting on a sticky, thick, greasy sunscreen that leaves a white cast on your face. It’s just not enjoyable. And, to make matters worse, it seems like every sunscreen is making me breakout lately. So here are the two sunscreens that

La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Lotion SPF60 $30USD/$29CAD

This is probably the most popular sunscreen in Canada. We are constantly sold out of it at Shoppers because everyone is trying to get their hands on it lately. And why is that? What makes this sunscreen so different from others? First of all, it’s an extremely lightweight texture. It absorbs immediately into the skin and leaves the slightest, most minimal white cast (however nothing that is really going to show up on the skin) with a semi-matte finish. Second, it’s a broad spectrum UVB + UVA which is extremely important. When a sunscreen is described as Broad Spectrum and the UVA has a little circle around it on the packaging, that means it offers the highest protection possible in a sunscreen. This sun protection comes from thepatented Mexoryl® sunscreen technology and other sunscreen filters that have been rigorously formulated to ensure the skin is protected from sunburn as well as UV-induced cell damage! It’s also an excellent product for more sensitive skin, however I do find I still breakout a little from this if I wear it all day.

Elizabeth Arden Prevage City Smart Lotion SPF50 $68USD/$85CAD

Ahhhh, let’s go from talking about a thirty dollar sunscreen to a whopping $85 sunscreen. Quite the jump there. However, I’ve never loved a sunscreen this much. Actually, I’ve never loved a sunscreen at all before so the price tag is totally worth it on this one. The City Smart sunscreen is a bit different from the La Roche Posay Anthelios Lotion in a couple of different ways. First of all, while it is a Broad Spectrum sunscreen, it does not have completeUVA protection. Therefore if you’re going to be in direct sunlight, lying on a beach somewhere, this is not the sunscreen for you. I would go for the LRP Anthelios instead. But, if you’re just doing your day-to-day errands and need an everyday sunscreen, the City Smart Lotion will be perfect! In addition to the SPF 50 protection, it also has an Anti-Pollution Complex to screen out pollutants and harmful UVB rays. The DNA enzyme complex supports the skin’s natural repair system while powerful antioxidants help fight environmental assaults to keep skin hydrated, protected and youthful looking! It’s not justa sunscreen hence why the price tag is a little steeper than most. In addition, it has a slight tint (that’s universal) to it that makes the skin look so glowy and healthy! This is the perfect sunscreen to wear on those no-makeup days because it’s adds the tiniest bit of colour and coverage to your skin! It does tend to be slightly greasy because of it’s hydrating properties so if you have oily skin, this might not be the one for you however this is the only sunscreen that doesn’t break me out!
