  • Down By The Water: A Couple Travel Essentials

This past (Canadian) Thanksgiving long weekend, I flew down (West) to the lovely city of Victoria to attend my Grandpa’s funeral. It was a sad but joyous couple of days. We were there to celebrate my Grandpa’s long and prosperous life as we mixed his ashes with my Grandma’s who had passed away sixteen years ago. That’s truly beautiful. I also finally got to live out my dream of having a Thanksgiving dinner with my extended family. My whole life, it’s just been me, my brother and my parents for holiday dinners but not this year. This year I got to spend it surrounded by twenty relatives. A little overwhelming but very heartwarming. I was truly thankful this Thanksgiving. Rest in peace Grandma and Grandpa.

Now let’s pretended I inserted a nice little segue to transition into the outfit portion of this post. So whenever I travel (which is not often), I haveto bring a blanket scarf. It is definitely my most important travel essential. In the past year when I went to Vegas (post here), Vancouver (post here) and even Mexico, I have brought a blanket scarf with me and it’s saved my life each and every time. Cold on the plane? You got a blanket with you. Cold outside? You got a blanket with you. Cold at your airbnb because the furnace is broken in the dead of winter and your host is unable to fix it but yet they refuse to give you a discount? You got a blanket with you. (True story by the way). So as you can see, blanket scarves are truly a life saver and I highly recommend always taking one with you when you travel. This one is from Aritzia and if anyone knows how to make blanket scarves done right, it’s Aritzia. I love the colours and patterns they come out with every season and how they’re lightweight yet still warm and cuddly. Very blanket-like.

Another travel essential are these boots from Old Navy that I’m slowly mourning the death of. They are getting pretty beaten up do to the fact that whenever I travel, these are the boots I wear (see linked Vegas and Vancouver posts above). They are the PERFECT pair of shoes. I wouldn’t change a thing about them. They are comfy. They are chic. They match everything. They’re easy to walk in. The list goes on and on. When I was in Victoria this past weekend, I went into a cute boutique (Folk on Fort Street) and the sales associate immediately asked me where I got my boots. I told her and we got into this fascinating (no sarcasm) conversation about how we can’t seem to find the perfect black boot to replace our treasured ones we already have. She’s re-soled her boots three times now and they’re definitely on their last leg. So if you have any black boot recommendations for us, please let us know. We’re desperate.
