  • Laneige Glowy Lip Balms

I find that being a beauty blogger often takes away the excitement of new makeup. Before this was my job, I would lust over new releases in Sephora for weeks, even months, dreaming about the day I might somehow get my hands on them. But now, getting sent new products every single day, I have to admit that magic of opening a new lipstick or blush is sometimes lost. And that makes me sad. Yes, twelve year old Taylor would be ecstatic over the amount of makeup I receive but also it just doesn’t seem as special to me anymore.

But a little bit of the magic was brought back into my life when I received these Laneige Lip Glowy Balms in the mail. These lip balms were something I had been seeing on Instagram all month and I had my heart set on them. I was planning on buying them the day they launched at Sephora in Canada. My friend had given me a Sephora gift card for my birthday (what a sweetheart) and these lip balms were exactly what I had been planning to spend it on. So, you can understand my excitement when these arrived at my front door in the cutest packaging imaginable.

So, for those of you who haven’t heard the hype (seriously, do you live under a rock), the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask ($20USD/$24CAD) is ICONIC. I have a whole review on it here and how it’s basically changed my life. I have the world’s driest lips (look me up in the Guiness Book of World Records under the chapped lips category) and this lip mask is one of the few things that have made my lips soft and kissable (come at me boys) again. But, as much as I do love this mask, there is just one itsy bitsy problem. Because it’s so hydrating and rich, I have found that I get little pimples around my mouth when I apply this mask. At first I thought it might just be hormonal acne again but after talking to one of my friends, she noticed the same thing when she used her Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. So, because of that, I don’t use this mask every single night. I reserve it for one to two nights a week when my lips are the driest and I find I don’t break out from it when I use it sparingly.

But, because I still need a lip balm for in between those nights, I have been waiting and waiting for these Lip Glowy Balms ($15USD/$18CAD) to release in Canada. The minute I laid eyes on the packaging of these, I was obsessed. They’re so darn adorable in their bright packaging, squishy tubes and fun scents. I love a good fruit scent. There are four different scents with corresponding shades. Although they’re extremely sheer, some of the shades do give a slight (VERY slight) tint to the lips. The lightest is Pear, a transparent green that smells like… pears. Very fresh and pear-like. How do you describe the scent of pear? I do not know. Next is Peach, an orangey-coral shades that also smells like peach. Fancy that. Grapefruit is more of a peachy pink shade (how ironic) and one again, smells like grapefruit. Do I sound like a broken record yet? The deepest shade is the Berry which is a mid-toned rose and smells exactly like their infamous Lip Sleeping Mask (AKA berries).

So, besides the fun scents and shades, I also really like the formula. They’re a thick, yet slippery balm so they feel super comfortable and hydrating on the lips. They give quite a bit of gloss to the lips so I love layering these both under and over lipstick to make my lips look full and plump (AKA kissable). Another thing that I really love about these Lip Glowy Balms are the applicators. They have a plastic paddle (is that how you’d describe it? Please reference picture) applicator that helps smooth the lip balm onto the lips in an even manner. You wouldn’t think that’s important, but it is.

The set also comes with the cutest lil’ mini Lip Sleeping Mask that you already know I’m gonna take right to work and keep on my desk. Am I the only one who doesn’t just put the Lip Sleeping Mask on when I’m sleeping? It’s a great daytime balm as well. But maybe that will all change now that I have the Lip Glowy Balms. But, if I’m not mistaken, I do believe this set of the four balms plus the mini mask is exclusive for PR gifting. Am I wrong? Am I right? I think I’m right. Sorry y’all. But the Lip Glowy Balms are available at Sephora for $15USD/$18CAD each, so go get you some!
