I first tried out some Love Beauty and Planet haircare almost exactly a year ago (coincidence?) (review here) and I absolutely loved the line. In case you don’t want to read that review, I will sum up a little bit about the brand here. The line is dedicated to helping the planet. First, the bottles are 100% recyclable. Next, the conditioners are designed to wash out quickly and not stubbornly so you waste less water trying to get the product out. Third, all ingredients are naturally and responsibly sourced as well as vegan and not tested on animals. And there’s no silicones, parabens or dyes either. And it doesn’t stop there. The scents are all ethically sourced fragrance oils and absolutes. In addition, there’s no animal testing, they’re 100% vegan and organic with no dyes, no parabens and no silicones. What more could you want in your haircare? Only the best for my hair.
So Love Beauty and Planet have expanded their range quite a bit ever since I first tried them out a year ago and one of their new collections is the Prevent & Preserve Turmeric & Tonka Essence line. I don’t know if it’s me just realizing it but turmeric has really become popular this year. I see it in everything from cookies to turmeric lattes to face masks and I have to say I’m quite a big fan of turmeric. So, a year ago, my dog, Oakley, started developing this tumour-like bump in his nostril (If you look at his nose in this post, you might be able to see how bad it was). I’ve never talked about this on my blog before because I was so scared of what it could turn into. We were hoping and praying it wouldn’t turn out to be cancerous. This dog is my whole entire life and the thought of losing him was something I couldn’t handle. We scoured the internet to see what this polyp could be and we read an article in which a lady had a dog with a similar condition and she fed the dog tumeric everyday and it went away. I have to admit I was very hesitant to try this. I know that turmeric contains curcumin that has been known to kill some cancer cells but it just seemed to good to be true. But, we fed Oakley turmeric (wrapped in cream cheese, he loved it) three times a day for six months and low and behold, the polyp went away (maybe from the turmeric or maybe it just went away with time, I don’t know). It was a miracle and I thank my lucky stars each and every day that my pup is a healthy lil’ guy again. I love him so much.
Anyways, that story wasn’t related to this Love Beauty and Planet hair care at all but I can’t even think of turmeric without thinking about how it potentially saved my lil’ guy’s life. So yes, this new line contains turmeric and tonka essence and it smells AMAZING. There’s like a little sweet and spicy scent going on in this and I’m living for it! In addition to the scent, I also really love the formula. Love Beauty and Planet shampoos are sulfate free so while they don’t lather as much as a shampoo that does contain sulfate, I find they cleanse my hair really well and don’t leave any residue in the strands AKA my hair isn’t weighed down by extra products. And for girls with fine hair like me, that’s hella important. The conditioner is equally as nice because it’s super lightweight as well. The turmeric in it helps to prevent split and damaged ends and make my hair super strong!
