In my last outfit post, I talked about packing for my trip to San Francisco and having no idea what to bring with me. The Bay Area weather is just so unpredictable. Downtown San Francisco is usually cold and windy because of the fog while the Palo Alto area is humid and hot. Because of the variability, I just had no idea what to pack. So, I took everyone’s advice and packed layers, layers and more layers. I did a whole post on what I ended up packing (featuring my new Monos Carry-On Luggage) but spoiler alert: I f**cked up big time (why am I censoring my swear words?) and packed all the wrong things. It was way hotter than I ever imagined and the last thing I wanted to do was wear jeans.
But luckily, I had my bestie with me on the trip who was more than willing to share her clothes with me. The dress I’m wearing is actually hers and it’s something I never thought I could pull off. It’s a simple black slip dress from Aritzia that seems to be all the rage this summer (and year in general). I always shied away from slip dresses like these because I thought they would be rather unflattering on my body and cling to all the wrong places. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it on. I’m not sure if it’s the fabric or the black colour but it just skims nicely over my body. Plus it’s insanely comfortable and kept me cool on that hot day. So, I might just be picking up my own slip dress in the near future.
To casualize (yes, this is now a word. I am inventing it) this slip dress, I (with the helpful stylings of my friend), I knotted a white t-shirt over top. I feel like white t-shirts are the epitome of casualizing (this must be a word now that I used it two times in two sentences) an outfit. Pair it with dress pants? Casual. Place one under a blazer? Casual. Throw it over a slip dress? Definitely casual. There’s a reason I have over ten plain white t-shirts in my closet. I wear them with everything.
For a little bit of warmth when the cold wind hits in San Fran (because, layers), I wore my yellow Cherelle blazer from Aritzia overtop. This blazer is the perfect blazer. It’s oversized with a flowy fit so it has that uber-casual vibe but can also be dressed up when need be. Plus, the Cairo Gold color gives me that pop of mustard yellow that I so desperately crave in every outfit. My mustard yellow obsession has still not slowed down.
But the trend that I’m most happy about this season would have to be that whole “dad sneakers with dresses and skirts” look. It really saves my feet when walking up and down all those San Fran hills. These are the Nike Air Max 270 React in the American Modern colourway and let me just say, I am no sneakerhead/ hypebae. I was in Ulta and this employee comes up to me asking if these were the new Nike Air Max 270’s and how I was able to get my hands on them when they just released. To be honest, I just really like the peach and blue colours on this sneaker. I don’t know much else about them. My brother works at a sneaker shop (he’s the more stylish one out of the two of us unfortunately) and he hooked me up with these. They’re pretty darn sick (and insanely comfy so I’m happy).
