I don’t know what is with me these days. I used to go YEARS without buying any makeup (slight exaggeration) and yet, somehow, in the past couple of months, I have bought more makeup than I have in the past five years. Hopefully this is just a phase and I will go back to my no-buying makeup self again sometime soon. But until then, let’s just all be grateful that I am producing some good ol’ blog content for y’all.
This is the Guerlain My Météorites Palette ($60CAD/$59.99USD). It consists of a light-revealing powder, blush and highlighter all packaged inside of the cutest baby pink tin. I’ve been a long time fan of Guerlain for years now. But the thing that made me want to buy this the most was the price. Now, $60 isn’t inexpensive by any means. It ain’t no pocket change. But for Guerlain, it’s one hell of a steal and I really don’t understand how it can be this good of a deal. So let me, Mathematician Taylor, walk you through the math. The powder is 10 grams. If you were to buy this powder by itself, it’s only 8 grams and it’s a whopping $74CAD. So already, this palette is cheaper than just the powder. The blush in the palette is 4.2 grams and a full size blush is 6.5 grams and retails for $65CAD. Therefore, the price per gram is $10, making the blush in the palette a value of $42CAD. You feeling me? If we did the same calculation for the highlighter in the palette that is 4 grams, then there is another $40CAD. You add up those three numbers and BAM. You get a grand total actual value of $156CAD, all for $60CAD (the website says it’s valued at $107 but I beg to differ). Amazing really, I know. Let those numbers really sink in.
But, regardless, at the end of the day what really matters is how good this palette is, not the price. But MAN. This palette is good. I shouldn’t be surprised because I’ve been a huge fan of everything Guerlain has made ever since I started using the brand 7 years ago but my oh my, this palette has quickly become a popular item in my collection. Let’s start with the powder. I have a whole review on the both the Météorites pressed powder (review here) and the pearls powder (review here). I know in the pressed powder review, I talked about the fact that I couldn’t justify spending $80 on a powder even if it was indeed the most beautiful powder I had ever seen, which is why I’m ecstatic you get a full size powder in this palette. But here we go, talking about price again. Focus, Taylor, on the actual product. The powder is a gorgeous powder. It’s so finely pressed and has a mixture of five shades to subtly color correct and enhance your complexion. I love using it as a finishing setting powder because it blurs my pores and imperfections but most importantly, it mattifies my skin while still leaving a glow behind. It’s perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Now let’s talk about the blush and highlighter, two products that are exclusive to this palette. Guerlain does not often release highlighters. They have been known to do a couple limited edition highlighters in their Christmas or Valentine’s Day collection but they haven’t had a core highlighter for years (if ever). But this highlighter is perfection (how many times can I call this palette perfect?) and quite possibly what I’ve always wanted for a highlighter. It’s an icy pink without any big chunks of glitter and just provides a really nice sheen to the skin. It’s creamy and blendable and compliments my skin tone perfectly. It’s just great – truly, truly great. The blush is something I thought I wouldn’t like. It’s a shade I would usually turn my nose up at. It’s that rosy mid-tone pink that has a little bit too much blue in it. I like more dusty pinks or pale pinks or coral pinks. Never this kind of pink. Maybe it’s the subtle shimmer in it or the sheerness of it, but I love it on my cheeks. It really is the perfect addition to my blush collection and the fact that I don’t own any shade like it is a great bonus.
So, with just those three powder I am more than happy with this palette. But, there’s a few extra touches I should mention. First, the tin. I really like this packaging. It’s solid and sturdy but also super cute with the pastel pink metal casing. And, the part that houses the blush, highlighter and powder is fully removable so, when you’ve used it all up, you can keep the tin and reuse it! Genius. The other half of the tin contains a good size mirror plus a little tiny brush that makes this palette so convenient to travel with or keep in your purse. Seriously! What is there not to love about this palette?!
