    Clarins Antiperspirant Review

Have I NOT talked about deodorant/antiperspirant on ze blog before?! Actually, hold that thought. That’s a lie. I’ve done one other post on deodorants. Three years ago (almost FOUR years ago, wow time flies), I posted about Routine’s deodorants (review here), but other than that, deodorants are not a common topic on ze blog. But that is all about to change.

The reason I have avoided talking about deodorants in the past is because I had yet to find a deodorant I really resonated with. But, before we jump into why this Clarins antiperspirant is so life changing, we have to talk about my sweating. This isn’t the cutest thing to talk about but hey, we all sweat. At least, the majority of us do. When I was 13 and going through that dreaded puberty, I sweated A LOT. It must have run in the family because my brother (sorry for putting him on blast) had the same problem. I remember being so embarrassed of wearing any colour shirt other than black or white because I would often have sweat stains. Combine that with my horrible acne and it was just not a fun time in my life. It wasn’t until I went on birth control when I was 18 that the sweating stopped. My hormones regulated and I could wear any colour shirt I wanted without worrying about any sweating showing through. It was great. But, five years later, I stopped taking birth control (whole post about that coming soon) and the sweating came back with a vengeance.

I really didn’t think there was a solution to this whole sweating problem. I just continued to use my Dove, Secret or Degree antiperspirants and hoped for the best. It wasn’t until I started using this Clarins Men Antiperspirant Stick ($20USD/$22CAD) that my whole world was changed. Now, a bit of a disclaimer. This is NOT an aluminum free deodorant and it pains me to say that. I know the dangers of aluminum antiperspirants and I wish I could switch to an all natural deodorant. However, I just want to stop sweating and aluminum free deodorants just don’t work on me. I don’t want to be a smelly sweaty mess OKAY. Moving on.

So this is a men’s antiperspirant. I always heard the rumour that men’s deodorants work better (just like men’s razors) but I never fully believed it enough to put it to the test. But when I got gifted this deodorant and gave it a try, my mind was made up that men’s antiperspirant/deodorants really are better. Much, much better. It’s a pretty standard antiperspirant at first glance, but there are a couple of details that really sets it apart from it’s competitors. First of all, it’s a cream that actually moisturizes my armpits. Because it is alcohol free, I don’t find it to be drying at all like other deodorants! I found that some were so drying or irritating that my lil’ armpits would get itchy but they feel soothed and comfortable with this Clarins antiperspirant. Second, the scent. It’s definitely not a scent that I would normally go for seeing as it’s more of a men’s scent (because it is a men’s product) but the fresh combination of lemon, orange, and grapefruit has really grown on me and is a welcomed change from the sweet vanilla deodorants I usually go for. The scent also doesn’t linger so if you don’t love the scent, do not fear. And third, it’s the first deodorant I’ve tried in a long time that is actually effective. It keeps me smelling fresh all day and helps my armpits stay relatively dry. I still sweat, but hey, I’m human.
