In my seven years of being a beauty blogger and eleven years of wearing makeup, I have yet to find a foundation that I truly love. I often think about when I’m no longer a blogger and don’t get supplied with free makeup, what foundation I will actually buy. The truth is, I don’t know. I don’t know if I love a foundation enough to wear that one and only that one. So, I am continuing on the search in hopes of finding my forever foundation.
Is it a coincidence that this foundation is called the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation then? Maybe, maybe not. So, Dior came out with the Forever foundation many years ago but since then has reformulated it many times. Earlier this year, when Dior reformulated it yet again, they changed a lot more than just tweaking the formula. This time, they launched two separate foundations in the Forever line. The first is similar to their beloved original formula and is called the Forever 24h Wear Matte Foundation ($68CAD/$52USD) and the second is a new, more radiant formula called the Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h Wear Radiant Perfection Skin-Caring Foundation ($68CAD/$52USD). Both formulations are absolutely gorgeous but my favorite by far is the Dior Forever Skin Glow foundation.
The Forever Skin Glow reminds me a lot of one of Dior’s other foundations – the Capture Totale foundation ($98CAD/$82USD) but at a slightly lower price (albeit still a hefty price tag). It’s a medium to full coverage foundation that promises 24 hour wear and gives the skin the most beautiful radiant glowy finish. Now, as for this promised 24 hour wear, I have to disagree. Maybe on someone with super dry skin this could last 24 hours, but I have normal combination skin (oily in the t-zone, dry on the cheeks) and by hour eight, this foundation ain’t looking too good. And that’s with setting it with a good powder and everything. But regardless, for those eight hours, this foundation does look pretty damn good! I just wouldn’t recommend it for someone looking for a particularly long wear foundation.
Like the Guerlain Parure Gold Foundation ($99CAD/$83USD) that I did a review on (read here), there is a special place in my heart for a foundation that is both radiant and full coverage. They really don’t seem too common. Usually glowy foundations are lightweight and light coverage and matte foundations are the full coverage ones. So whenever there is a full coverage radiant foundation, there’s usually a 90% chance I’m going to be a big fan of it. And that’s definitely what happened with this Forever Skin Glow foundation. It makes the skin look so flawless while the Pansy Extract in it helps protect the skin from drying, leaving it soothed, hydrated and more radiant AKA airbrushed.
I almost published this post and went to bed without talking about the most important thing about this foundation. Silly me. What kind of beauty blogger am I? So, the reason that I wasn’t in love with the previous versions of the Dior Forever foundations was because of the shade range. They had a pretty decent shade range with neutral, pink and yellow undertones starting at shade 010 and going up to shade 080. However, the 010 was the lightest shade and wasn’t nearly light enough for my pale skin (story of my life). Plus I found it really oxidized so it went really orange on my skin as well. But all my stars aligned when the Forever Skin Glow foundation was released and they had a new lighter shade- 0N (they have 24 shades in total). This 0N is the perfect shade for me. It blends flawlessly down my neck and I no longer look like a wannabe Oompa Loompa. All is right in the world.
