It’s been a long time since I’ve featured a friend’s outfit on ze blog and that is quite a shame seeing as the majority (AKA ALL) of them have better style than me. This is Vanessa. We’ve been friends since high school, grade 11 to be exact, (but technically since pre-school) and she’s one of the realest people I’ve ever met. But let’s talk about her outfit before this turns into a Vanessa appreciation post.
Vanessa is hella stylish and you’ve probably heard me talk a lot about her on ze blog in the past. She’s the whole reason I started loving Cherrelle Blazers (ootd here and here) and she’s always the first person I take shopping with me because if there’s one gal who’s going to be extremely honest and blunt with me, it’s her. Our style does tend to differ however. While I am definitely more on the girly side of things, she inches more towards the street style, cool girl look. But, we always seem to somehow meet in the middle and find pieces we both like.
If I remember correctly, Vanessa first bought this matching checkered set from Aritzia for her twenty-third birthday. Mine and Vanessa’s birthdays are very close together (we’re talking 21 days apart), so we did a joint lil’ birthday together at one of our favorite restaurants, DOSC. If you live in Edmonton and haven’t checked out DOSC yet, you must. The brussel sprouts there are divine. Oh my, I’m getting off track again. Back to her outfit. This set. It’s so cute. It’s a black and white checkered gingham set with cropped flare pants (called the Kick Flare Pants) and a cropped jacket (called the Little Cropped Jacket). I actually had my eyes on this jacket in the pea green colour (Bright Moss) for ages but alas it sold out before I ever got my hands on it.
With this matching set, Vanessa paired a white tee underneath and some Commes des Garcons sneakers. The ultimate way to make this outfit more casual. But I think the real winner of this whole outfit and the thing tying it all together is this Gucci hair clip. But whoa, whoa, whoa, if you really think Vanessa would spend $400USD on a single hair clip, you’re wrong. (Actually you’re probably right, but that’s not the point). I actually made this DIY hair clip myself as part of her birthday present last year. I bought a plain barrette clip from Walmart, adhesive jewels from Dollarama and made the best imitation Gucci clip you’ve ever seen. Vanessa was actually wearing this clip at dinner and our waitress complimented it with a straight face. It passed the test, y’all.
