I love lipsticks. I’m sure that doesn’t come as a surprise to any one of you. However, ever since this pandemic started and I began to work from home and not leave my house, it really changed my lipstick-wearing habits. And, on top of that, when I did finally start to leave the house again, my lips were always hidden underneath a mask. Nobody wants to wear a bright red lipstick and have it smear against their mask all day. AND to make matters even worse, I started my Invisalign treatment a couple of months ago and it makes wearing lipstick a huge hassle. Getting lipstick on your teeth is one thing, but getting lipstick on your Invisalign trays is a real pain. So, I went from wearing lipstick every single day to only once or twice a week if I’m lucky. Because of that, I have gotten very picky and choosy with which lipsticks I wear when the time finally comes to put on a lip product. And so here are some of my favorites for my favorite occasions!
The “I Just Woke Up But I Have a Zoom Meeting in 5” Lipsticks
Out of ALL my lipsticks, these Rouge Volupté Shine Oil-in-Stick Lipsticks ($49CAD/ $38USD) are my most worn. No, that is not an exaggeration. That is the full-on truth. They are so hydrating, glossy and provide the perfect wash of colour to your lips. I love throwing one of these lipsticks on when I have otherwise simple makeup on my face and just need a lil’ something to spice it up, especially when working from home. Zoom meetings have the tendency to suck all the colour and dimension from your face so I find applying one of these lipsticks is the quickest and easiest solution to that! My two favorite shades are #49 Rose Saint Germain (full review here) and #15 Corail Spontini.
The “(At Home) Date Night” Lipsticks
When I actually want to do my makeup and need the perfect lipsticks to compliment that, these are what I reach for. I have been so obsessed with Dior lippies for years now and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. It all started with the Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm ($43CAD/$34USD) in the shade Raspberry. It’s has all the moisturizing properties of a lip balm but gives a pop of colour. I just love this hot pink! And, if I want to layer a couple of products to achieve the perfect hydrated glossy lip, I always reach for the matching Dior Lip Maximizer in 007 Raspberry ($43CAD/$34USD), the perfect plumping gloss, and the Dior Lip Glow Oil in Cherry ($43CAD/$34USD), the most moisturizing oil gloss!
The “Leaving the House Once a Week” Lipsticks
As I said earlier, the last thing I want when I go grocery shopping wearing a mask is to have a bright lipstick rubbing all against the mask and smearing across my face. Plus, what’s the point of even wearing a lipstick if no one can see it? Therefore, I just opt for simple lip balms to wear when I leave the house, or, if I’m feeling particularly fancy, I’ll choose a tinted lip balm. My all-time favorite lip balm is this Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Swivel Stick ($3.99USD). I’m not sure if you can tell in the picture but it’s HUGE. it’s looks like a glue stick and thus, I am constantly made fun of for using it. But nothing and I mean NOTHING moisturizes my lips as well as this one. Plus it’s only like three dollars. I can’t be beat. When I want more of a tinted lip balm to add just a little bit of colour to my lips, I will use either the Kiehl’s Butterstick Lip Treatment ($28CAD/$24USD) (full review here) with Spf 30 (bonus!) or my beloved Glossier Cherry Balm Dotcom ($15CAD/$12USD) (full review here).
The “I Just Want This Pandemic To Be Over So Wear Your Damn Masks” Lipsticks
This Estee Lauder Pure Color Love Lipstick ($30CAD/$22.50USD) is probably the only “true” lipstick in this entire post unlike all the other tinted lip balms featured here. But it’s in good company. This lipstick is in the shade Crazy Beautiful and it’s, yup you guessed it, crazy beautiful. It’s a pale nude with a hint of a pinkish lilac undertone. It’s definitely one of my go-to nudes. And the last lipstick that I will be featuring in this post is once again not really a lipstick. It is the Dior Addict Lip Sugar Scrub ($43CAD/$34USD) and it’s the best of both worlds. It has little granules of sugar that exfoliate the dead skin off as your swipe it across your lips but then, as the sugar crystals dissolve, it leaves behind a beautiful soft pink hue to the lips. And it’s also incredibly moisturizing to comfort the new skin left behind!
