It’s been a hot minute since I’ve talked about Vichy on ze blog. There’s just too many skincare brands to talk about right now and unfortunately, sometimes Vichy gets left behind in the hustle and bustle of the beauty industry. However, Vichy has some really fantastic products out right so I’m really excited to talk about them on ze blog today! I recently got the chance to attend the Vichy International Derm Science Summit in Paris (virtually of course) to learn all about these products and the amount of research and experimental studies that backs them. That’s what I love about Vichy. As a high end derm brand, Vichy is all about being effective and achieving amazing results for you skin. They forgo the luxury packaging and trendy ingredients and instead create products that just work.
So, let’s talk about the Normaderm Phytosolution Anti-Acne Purifying Gel Cleanser ($19.95CAD) first. I have been using this cleanser for as long as I can remember. When I was twelve and first sprouting acne, I went to Shoppers Drug Mart and they recommended this cleanser for me. I used it religiously for five years and then, when I started working at Shoppers Drug Mart, I too recommended this cleanser to every teen coming in who struggled with acne. And now, here I am, fourteen years later, still using this cleanser (albeit the formula has slightly changed). Talk about coming full circle! I love this cleanser because of how gentle, yet effective it is. It doesn’t strip the skin of natural oils and hydration like some acne cleansers. Instead it is an oil-free and soap-free formula that contains active ingredients like salicylic acid, zinc, bifidus probiotic and copper to not only target pimples, acne breakouts, pores and oily skin but also to reinforce your skin barrier function. The gel texture is one of my favorite because it foams up really nicely once it comes in contact with water.
Next is the Vichy Dercos Anti-Dandruff Shampoo for Normal to Oily Hair ($19.95CAD). I was super intrigued to try this shampoo because although I don’t struggle with dandruff, I definitely have an itchy and irritated scalp lately. And this shampoo is designed to help me with exactly that. Selenium sulfide helps to remove any dry flakes on the scalp while salicylic acid treats the dandruff & seborrheic dermatitis and finally, ceramide restores and reinforces the scalp. It also plays a key role in repairing the skin’s barrier. It’s important to note that this shampoo isn’t meant to be your daily shampoo. Instead, you only have to use it once or twice a week for up to six weeks. After that, your oily scalp is realigned and dandruff is eliminated and stubborn irritation is reduced.
Now let’s move over to talking about the Mineral 89 products from Vichy. I have already done a full dedicated review on the Mineral 89 Fortifying Daily Skin Booster ($41.95CAD/$29.50USD) a whopping three years ago (see here). And I haven’t stopped using it since. It’s that good. In fear of repeating myself, I’ll quickly brush over why I love it so much. This booster provides the skin’s daily dose of strength as it repairs, fortifies and hydrates it to protect it against aggressors like weather changes, stress, fatigue and pollution. Its formula combines 89% of Vichy Volcanic Water and natural-origin Hyaluronic Acid (hence the Mineral 89 name). It’s extremely lightweight, oil-free, and refreshing on the skin so you can use it underneath your moisturizer in even the hottest of weather and not feel like you have a ton of products on your face. And, if you have oilier skin, you can use this as your moisturizer. It’s just a pretty amazing product if I do say so myself.
And so, because of my love for the Mineral 89 Booster, I’m sure you can guess how excited I was when I heard there was a new product in the Mineral 89 line from Vichy: the Mineral 89 Probiotic Fractions ($49.95CAD). This is the product we all desperately need right now. As this pandemic goes on and on and we keep wearing face masks, our skin is increasingly becoming more dry and irritated. The Probiotic Fractions Booster works to reverse that (as well as all the other sources of stressors our skin faces like pollution, stress and climate change). As our skin becomes dull, fragilized and tired-looking skin, this booster that is powered by probiotic fractions grown in Vichy Volcanic Water and enriched with soothing niacinamide (Vitamin B3) help to regenerate and repair the skin. The Probiotic Fractions can be used as the first step as your skincare routine and if you want to use the Mineral 89 Hydration Booster as well, I’d recommend using the Probiotic Fractions at nighttime and the Hydration Booster in the morning for the perfect skincare routine! That’s definitely what I’m going to continue doing this summer!
