It’s definitely been a minute since I last posted on ze blog (14 days to be exact), but life has been CRAZY. I started my MBA (!!!!) last week and let me tell ya. It feels weird to be a student again. Weird, but good. I’ve definitely missed learning and studying but I didn’t miss the tests aspect as much. I have such horrible test anxiety and it definitely came back with a vengeance this time around. But, I’m going to try to get back on a good schedule so I don’t go two weeks without posting here again. Cross your fingers for me.
I was recently sent this Benzagel After Care Moisturizing Lotion ($16.79 CAD) and I was so excited to give it a try. It’s the exact thing I’ve been needing in my skincare routine. I’m currently on a prescription benzoyl peroxide/Clindamycin topical treatment for my acne and it’s been working wonders for my skin! My skin has cleared up SO much and I find I’m only breaking out around my period and when I wear a mask for long periods of time – two things I completely understand and am fine with. But, because I am on this treatment, I find that my skin has been quite dry on the areas where I apply this gel. That’s where this Benzagel After Care Moisturizing Lotion comes in.
It is specially made for using after a strong acne treatment. It uses a combination of ingredients to exfoliate, nourish and restore the skin back it’s natural moisturizing factor. The squalane mimics your skin’s own lipids to help prevent water loss and carry active ingredients deep into the skin, The AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) contains a blend of bilberry, sugarcane, orange and lemon extracts to exfoliate and help your skin look younger by smoothing out fine lines. Botanical extracts like aloe vera, rose, cucumber, ginger and witch hazel have special astringent and emollient properties to tighten skin while olive fruit extracts help protect against collagen and elastin reduction and help to moisturize dry skin. Lastly, minerals like magnesium, iron, zinc, copper and silicon provide smoothing, moisturizing and skin reviewing capabilities.
And because it doesn’t contain any parabens, is non-comedogenic as well as non-irritant, it’s not going to contribute to any additional active acne. It’s truly the best partner in crime to my benzoyl peroxide spot treatment. It also has a really cool watery gel kind of texture so it doesn’t feel oily or heavy on my skin. It absorbs right in and leaves my skin feeling refreshed and hydrated. And there’s no scent to irritate your skin. Plus it’s in a handy plastic pump bottle so it’s super easy to dispense and travel with (not that we’re doing any of that anytime soon)!

2020 Skincare Favorites – When I'm Older
[…] I never thought I would use a non-derm or prestige moisturizer. I’m not as pretentious as that might sound, I promise. I just always gravitated towards creams from higher end brands. That all changed when I was sent this Benzagel lotion to try out. I fell in love with the smooth, lightweight, non-greasy texture and the fact that it didn’t make my skin breakout. What’s not to love? Exactly. Read the full review here. […]
