So, I recently addressed my fallout with doing eyeshadow looks on Instagram but I figured I should talk about it here, on ze blog, as well. Ever since I started my 9-5 8-4 office job, I haven’t gotten much of a chance to play with makeup. I usually just wear mascara as my only eye makeup. Partly because I wouldn’t fit in much at work with crazy eyeshadow and partly because I am way too asleep most mornings to put in much effort into my makeup at 6am.

But I really have missed playing with makeup and creating new eyeshadow looks. So, to spark that creativity within me and reawaken my love for eyeshadow, I picked up quite a few eyeshadow palettes when I was down in San Francisco (and one when I was back in Edmonton from the Sephora VIB Rouge sale). One of those eyeshadow palettes was this Colourpop Yes, Please! Eyeshadow Palette ($16USD) from Ulta. Here in Canada, we don’t have an Ulta so when I set foot in my very first Ulta, I was very excited to say the least. It was everything I ever wanted. So much makeup, so little money.

I’ve tried a little bit of Colourpop makeup over the years (reviews here and here) but with pricey international shipping and the looming threat of customs/duties fees, I rarely get to order much from Colourpop. Hence, when I saw Ulta carried a little bit of the Colourpop line, I knew I had to pick something up. This palette was practically calling my name with it’s yellow, burnt orange and rust tones. In retrospect, I probably have way too many of these kinds of palettes (like the Huda Beauty Coral Obsessions palette (review here) and the Jaclyn Hill x Morphe Armed and Gorgeous palette (review here) but I just couldn’t resist another palette like this.

The palette features 12 pans with a mix of eight mattes and four shimmers. I loved that there was a good mix of neutrals mixed in with the oranges, yellows and reds. Full Zip, a matte pinky-cream, is the perfect shade for all over my lid with Champs, a peachy pink, in the crease, and Note to Self, a mid-toned camel brown, in the outer corner. With those three neutrals, it makes it so easy to add in any of the more colourful shades in the palette to create a multitude of different eye looks! I was also pleasantly surprised at how smooth and buttery all the shadows in this palette are. They blend effortlessly and the pigmentation is fabulous. The only thing I could possibly complain about is the absence of a mirror in the palette, but for $16USD, you really can’t go wrong with this one.
