Edmonton is having an insane heat wave right now and to be honest, I’m loving every second of it. It always makes me question why I live here when I love the warm weather so much and hate the cold weather with a burning passion. I am so much happier when it’s hot out. And so you best believe I am an extremely happy gal right now.

But with this warm weather comes a lot of sweat and sunburns so I have to be extra careful with what I wear to make sure I am both protected and kept cool from the hot sun. The first essential to survive the summer heat is, of course, a hat. I have been such a hat girl lately. Baseball caps, bucket hat, straw hats, I need them all. I recently picked up the cutest bucket hat which will be featured in a blog post later this month (I think). Who would have ever thought I’d be a fan of bucket hats?! Not me, that’s for sure. Anyways, I love all the hats but this Brixton Joanna hat is one of my go-to’s. It’s a woven straw hat that features a wide brim and a black ribbon bow. Now at first sight it might just look like your average straw hat. But listen up. I have an abnormally small head (but not a small brain, dontcha worry) so it’s pretty darn hard to find a hat that actually fits. But the Brixton hats come in sizes XS all the way to XL. And yup, you guessed it, mine is in a size XS. What’s even cooler (figuratively and literally) about this hat is that it offers powerful 50+ UPF protection from any harmful ultraviolet rays. My scalp is so prone to burning so this sun protection is definitely a necessity for me!

The next summer essential is a good pair of sandals. I don’t know why but I have such a hard time shopping for sandals and because of that, I actually own very few pairs. The ones I’m wearing with this outfit are the Shakira Tan Leather Sandals from L’Intervalle. L’Intervalle is a Canadian company based out of Montreal and they make the most stunning shoes however I wish these ones were as comfortable as they are cute. They feature a leather toe ring with a gold circle over the foot. However, the way the circle is angled hits all the bones in your foot and is just simply not too comfortable. It’s a shame because these are super cute sandals but I certainly would not be able to walk a long distance in these.

And the last warm weather essential is a good sundress. I have been on the hunt for the perfect sundress for quite a while now. And it’s really not that easy of a search. I wanted something in a breathable material, a neural colour, something I could dress up or down and nothing too short or revealing. Basically I just wanted a dress I could throw on no matter the occasion and still be comfy and cute without sweating to death. I found this one after months of searching on Zara. It’s made of a linen and cotton blend fabric (53% linen & 47% cotton) with a v-neck, short puffy balloon sleeves and a ruffled tiered hem. The linen blend makes this dress so light and effortless. I wore it on a +30°C day when I went for a two hour walk and I didn’t even feel uncomfortable (except when a guy catcalled me and followed me home but that’s a whole other story). Mine is in the light khaki colour (and a size XS for reference) which was the only colour available at the time but it now also comes in a sand shade as well as white and light blue. I’m strongly debating if I can justify buying it in another colour. However, seeing how much I wear it, it probably would make sense to pick it up in another colour!

So, in summary, this outfit is pretty damn summery.
