Ooooh honey. We got an exciting post on ze blog today. (Not that my posts are usually not exciting but this one is especially exciting, y’know?). Alicia Keys (yes, THE Alicia Keys) recently launched a skincare line. Actually, let’s back up for a second. It was launched back in 2020, however it wasn’t available in Canada until only recently (March 31, 2022 to be exact) when it made it’s debut at Sephora Canada. And this isn’t just your normal celebrity skincare brand that seems to concentrate more on trendy packaging instead of high potency and effective active ingredients. In fact, Keys Soulcare really does strive to go beyond skincare to care for the whole self – body, mind and spirit. And, Alicia Keys teamed up with board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Renee Snyder, to create clean, safe and effective product offerings that are also cruelty free so you know there’s a whole lot of science and thought behind each and every product.

We have a whole lotta products to go over in this post, so let’s get right into it. Let’s start with the cleansing products first. We have the Golden Cleanser Gentle Face Wash ($35CAD, 170ml) as well as the Nourishing Cleansing Balm ($48CAD/$32USD, 80 ml). The Golden Cleanser is quite simply perfection. It contains turmeric to purify and calm the skin, while Manuka honey draws moisture in and keeps the skin hydrated, and chamomile continues to soothe the skin. But, best of all, the scent of this cleanser is what makes it so damn luxurious. It has a subtle sage and oat milk fragrance which is my new favorite scent ever. The Nourishing Cleansing Balm is lovely as well. As you can probably guess by the lack of cleansing balm reviews on ze blog, I really don’t tend to use a balm to remove my makeup very often. I usually much prefer a micellar water and cotton pad combo. However, this just might be the cleansing balm to change my mind. It contains bamboo charcoal (hence the deep black colour) to remove impurities, dirt, and excess oil from skin. Shea Butter and Sunflower Seed Oil also work together to help moisturize, hydrate and soothe the skin as you remove any makeup and oil from the skin’s surface. Both the cleanser and cleansing balm pair so well together in any skincare routine.

Now, let’s move on to the two staple hydrating products from Keys Soulcare – a cream and serum. The Skin Transformation Cream ($51CAD/$32USD, 50ml) is an incredibly hydrating face cream that helps reveal plumped and radiant-looking skin. It has the same lovely sage and oat milk fragrance combo as the cleanser but also contains Bakuchiol (an anti-aging retinol alternative) to help smooth and improve the look of skin tone and texture, malachite (a copper carbonate hydroxide mineral) to both purify and calm the skin as well as ceramides to replenish the skin’s barrier and lock in moisture. It has a lovely thick texture so this is a cream that definitely is suited better for my oily skin in the winter but is suitable for all skin types. And, with any good moisturizer, you always need an equally good serum. The Let Me Glow Illuminating Serum ($40CAD/$27USD, 30ml) pairs two of my favorite skincare ingredients, niacinamide and rose water, to hydrate, illuminate and prime the skin before applying makeup. In addition, it has a lovely sheer golden tint (that is sheer enough to compliment any skin tone) to give the skin a nice healthy glow.

And the last two products that I’ll be talking about in today’s post are arguably the most exciting ones in the Keys Soulcare line (not that the other four aren’t exciting, they’re just more of the basic necessities rather than the fun extras!). And these fun extras include the Be Luminous Exfoliator ($40CAD, 65ml) which is actually a powder exfoliator! Fun fact: powder exfoliators are my preferred type of skin exfoliator but they can be so hard to find sometimes! This one is water-activated that transforms from a powder to a foam with micro-granules like Hojicha Powder and Mung Beans to help gently exfoliate the skin. Lactic acid serves as a chemical exfoliator to promote a softer, smoother skin texture and give the skin a brighter appearance. And the very last product is the Keys Reviving Aura Mist ($40CAD, 110ml). I really love a good facial spray but I often forget to use one. Blame my early morning chaos trying to get ready for work in time. I really should just keep one on my desk at work (that’s actually a really smart idea, I need to remember to do that). Not only does this spray lock in moisture but it also helps to hydrate, tone, and revive your skin with the help of Witch Hazel and Rose of Jericho.
