This may look like the most boring blog post in the world but I am here to tell you that is quite simply just not the case. I know this eyeshadow looks like nothing special. It looks like any other matte cream-coloured shadow and you’re probably wondering why I would dedicate a whole entire blog post to this eyeshadow. Well folks, if you haven’t guessed it by now, this is no ordinary eyeshadow. And I am going to tell you exactly why that is. So listen up.
This eyeshadow costs a whopping $38CAD/$29USD. Thirty-eight dollars. Yes, you heard that correctly. If that’s not the most expensive single shadow you’ve ever seen than I don’t know what is. Even a Dior single shadow is only $36CAD. A Sisley single shadow, on the other hand, is $70CAD but hey, that’s just ludicrous. Anyways back to the star of this blog post: the Marc Jacobs Beauty O!mega Gel Powder Eyeshadow. Now, before you click out of this post because you can’t fathom spending almost $40 on a single shadow (I don’t blame you), just hear me out. This is the best eyeshadow I have ever tried and from day one of owning it, it has become a staple in my makeup routine.
Due to lacking a tan 364 days a year, I have super pale, translucent eyelids. And because these eyelids are indeed so pale and translucent, my blue veins show through and it drives me CRAZY. Even on my most natural of makeup days, I hate going without eyeshadow on my lids because I really despise seeing those blue veins. I’m sure it’s just one of those insecurities that only I notice on myself but I do everything within my power to cover them up. Usually just a plain-ass cream coloured eyeshadow does wonders at covering them up, but I always found them to be not 100% perfect. They were either too chalky or not opaque enough or the wrong undertone or slightly too dark or would crease throughout the day. I was having trouble finding that perfect everyday shadow. Well, spoiler alert: this Marc Jacobs shadow is it.
The formula is perfection. It’s described as the cashmere sweater of eyeshadows and boy, they’re not wrong. It’s a 12-hour longwear eyeshadow that is almost half powder, half gel. It contains these gel-coated pigments that are specially designed to minimize any fallout and provide crease-resistant colour. And I found that to be very true. Almost any eyeshadow will eventually crease on my eyes towards the end of the day, even with a eyeshadow primer underneath. Hower, I don’t experience any creasing with this Marc Jacobs O!mega shadow. And because it’s a gel formula, it’s glides on so smooth with opaque coverage. Nobody will ever know about my unsightly blue veins again (unless they read this blog post, oops). I promise you. The shade, Perfect-O!, is absolutely perfect as well. It’s a satin vanilla cream that is just light enough for my pale skin but has enough depth to it to cover my veiny lids. It has the slightest sheen so it’s not totally flat but it definitely serves its purpose as a matte base to any eyeshadow look.
Now, if you’re still not convinced that these shadows are worth the hefty price tag, let me hit you with some more facts because I will win you over with these eyeshadows. These Marc Jacobs single shadows are HUGE. They are big boys weighing in at 3.8 grams each. Or, if you prefer, 0.13 ounces. A Mac Cosmetics eyeshadow is a mere 1.5 grams or 0.05 ounces and retails for $20CAD/$18USD. As you can see, the Marc Jacobs shadows are 2.5 times bigger than Mac shadows but only 1.9 times more expensive. In other words, the MJ shadows are $10/gram compared to $13.33/gram for the Mac shadows. So although the O!mega eyeshadows might seem pricey, it’s a better bang for your buck and you will never to worry about hitting pan again. As my boyfriend would say, buy nice or buy twice.
