New Launches From Almay

Almay Eyeshadow in #220 Less is More and #100 Unicorn // Almay Make Them Jelly Illuminateur in #004 24K Dreams // Almay Goddess Gloss in #930 Dreamy

I feel like Almay is one of those brands that is so often overlooked or forgotten in the drugstore makeup world. And I have to admit I don’t often give it the credit it deserves. I haven’t tried much from the brand over the years but what I have tried, I have loved. And that’s saying a lot for a drugstore brand where it’s competitors often have a lot of hits and misses. So Almay recently sent over some of their new products and I immediately put them to the test.

Almay Velvet Foil Cream Shadow

I have really been liking cream shadows again lately. However, instead of layering them under a powder eyeshadow, I love to pat them overtop of my finished eyeshadow looks to add an extra metallic finish. I received the Almay Velvet Foil Cream Shadows in #100 Silver Lining which is a super pretty metallic silver and #120 Infinite Sky, a pale silvery blue. Both shades are stunning and I was super impressed to see they dry down completely and don’t crease or move at all throughout the day!

Almay Shadow Squad Eyeshadow

I’m usually extremely picky about my single shadows so the fact that I absolutely LOVE these Almay Shadow Squads means that they are bomb. Dot com. First of all, each shade has four texture/finish variants in the same pan. They have a matte, glitter, shimmer and satin finish in each quadrant of the square. That’s GENIUS. Need a matte shade one day and a shimmer the next? No problemo. Almay has got you covered. #220 Less is More is the perfect nudey champagne colour for all over the lid while #100 Unicorn is the prettiest white for an inner corner or brow bone highlight.

Almay Goddess Gloss

I have been trying to get more and more into lip glosses again. I love the way they look on my lips and yet, I never ever reach for them. A tinted lip balm or lipstick just seems so much more practical than throwing on a sticky gloss. However, these Goddess Glosses are as close to the perfect formula as they come. They are so smooth on the lips and feel almost moisturizing without any sort of a sticky texture. #930 Dreamy is a beautiful rosy mid-tone pink with a magenta shimmer and #900 Gilded is a pretty light gold (perfect for layering overtop of your favorite lipstick).

Almay Make Them Jelly Hi-Lite Illuminateur

These jelly highlighters are definitely one of Almay’s more unique products. Although Almay is a brand that tends to play it safe when coming out with their products, they always have at least one thing in their range that’s unique. And this year, it’s these jelly highlighters. They’re essentially a pot of a gel texture highlighter. It feels like a combination between Jello and strawberry jam which is definitely not a bad thing. It’s so bouncy and satisfying. I like to apply mine by dabbing a beauty blender sponge in the pot a couple of times and then lightly patting in on my face. I find this is the perfect way to get a super natural highlight. But, if you want that blinding glow, I would suggest using your fingers to scoop a bigger amount of the jelly on your face. The shades I got are 24K Dreams (#004), a light warm toned gold and #003 Unicorn Light, a sparkly pink. Unicorn Light is a little too pink for my liking but 24K Dreams is a great everyday shade!

Almay Smoky Eye Trios

I should have saved the best for last but these Eye Trios are not my favorite unfortunately. There’s nothing wrong with them. There’s just nothing special about them. They are eyeshadow trios that come with a base shade, a crease shade and a highlight shade. Nothing revolutionary. #030 Coppery Blaze is made of a dark taupe, deep brown and creamy highlight and #020 Smoldering Embers has a shimmery brown, a plum and a champagne highlight. But one thing that makes these trios nicer than your average drugstore eyeshadow is that they’re hypoallergenic and ophthalmologist tested so they’re suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers!
