& How To Get The Healthiest Hair Possible
There are some things I do at the end of every summer. One, I experience a breakup. Second, I cut my hair. Contrary to what it might seem, the two are not correlated (I swear). I chop off my hair only once a year, every august. That means that from September to July I’m working hard to keep my hair healthy and long and trying to prevent any split ends or breakage. And then, when I’m fed up with how long it is, I cut it to just past my shoulders. Still long but definitely a lot more manageable.
One thing that helps me get by with only getting a haircut once a year is that I’ve never dyed my hair before. That has helped considerably cut down on the damage to my hair. Second, I try to not use heat on my hair everyday. I straighten/curl my hair three times a week max. The other four days I tend to go au naturel or throw my hair up in a bun, ponytail or braid (although I find that sometimes a ponytail can cause a lot of breakage if it’s too tight).
But something else that has been essential in keeping my hair healthy is using a shampoo and conditioner duo that helps to strengthen my hair. And the Not Your Mother’s Way To Grow line does just that. Both the Way To Grow Long & Strong Shampoo ($5.99USD/$7.99CAD) and Conditioner ($5.99USD/$7.99CAD) contain essential vitamins, herbs and bioactive extracts to strengthen and moisturize the hair to help it grow faster, longer and stronger. Although I haven’t personally noticed my hair growing faster than usual (I don’t think that’s something you really notice unless you wake up one morning and your hair is six inches longer), my hair does indeed feel thicker and healthier. And the texture is a lot silkier and smoother. So overall, I’m a fan! I should start measuring my hair ever morning to see how much it grows daily. I will keep you posted 😉
I also tried the Plump For Joey Thickening Hair Lifter ($5.99USD/$7.99). All my life, I have had incredibly fine hair. Even though I have a lot of hair, it is very fine so I am often lacking any volume. It’s just a little flat for my liking. So, I was super excited to try this Hair Lifter to see if it could provide some volume to my limp strands. You spray this into the palms of your hands, rub them together, and then scrunch it into your hair from the ends to the roots. It helps to thicken and strengthen your hair as well as adding body and shine. However, I am extremely picky with how I like the texture of my hair to be. And I have to say I wasn’t the biggest fan of the type of texture it added into my hair. It was almost sticky. It’s not that type of “run your fingers through your hair” type of feeling and I wasn’t a fan. But my hair did look a lot fuller and thicker with this product sprayed in so I guess it’s a “win some, lose some” type of situation.
