Paula’s Choice

There are very few skincare brands in which I wholeheartedly trust. I think a lot of skincare brands tend to cater to a market in which they want the newest, coolest thing and by doing so, they don’t always include the best ingredients or really do anything for your skin. But for me, Paula’s Choice is definitely one of those brands that have always had my back. They make very straightforward skincare with effective active ingredients that are actually gonna do what they say they do. Now that is the skincare for me.

I’ve actually been using Paula’s Choice since the beginning of 2016 (reviews here, here, here and here), over three years ago! And since then, I’ve found some of my ride or die skincare products like the Clear Daily Skin Clearing Treatment (with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide) ($18USD) and the Skin Balancing Oil-Reducing Cleanser ($26USD). If you have problematic skin (AKA acne), these two products will change your life (and your skin, duh).

But recently, Paula’s Choice has been changing up their brand. The packaging is getting a redesign and the formulations are being tweaked a little. I don’t always love when brands change up their packaging because I feel they often lose their uniqueness in the process but I am really liking the direction in which Paula’s Choice is moving. It’s more minimalistic and modern which kind of sums up their skincare philosophy in a way in which they have simple ingredients that just work.

So they sent over two of their uber popular products – the beloved Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant ($29.50USD) and the Omega+ Complex Moisturizer ($35USD). For as long as I’ve known about Paula’s Choice, the 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant has been raved about by everyone (I even have it in it’s old packaging from way back then). It has almost 2500 reviews on the website with an outstanding 4.5 stars. So if you’re not going to believe it from me that this product is amazing, those 2500 reviews should be more than enough proof for you. This liquid is a gentle leave-on exfoliant that unclogs pores, smooths wrinkles, and brightens and evens out skin tone with the 2% Beta hydroxy acid. It’s gentle enough to be used twice daily after cleansing and toning (it is not a toner). I have found that is has made such a difference with clearing up my acne. It keeps my breakouts at bay and makes my skin so smooth and soft! It does tend to dry out my skin a little bit so just make sure to use a good moisturizer overtop.

I also tried out the Omega+ Complex Moisturizer. This cream has a blend of superfood omega fatty acids, chia and flaxseed as well as replenishing ceramides and antioxidants. Omegas 3, 6 and 9 strengthen the moisture barrier while passion fruit and guava extracts soothe your skin. It’s fragrance free so it’s especially gentle on sensitive skin. I do find it a little heavier than most creams that I’m used to but it still absorbs quickly into the skin and locks in hydration! It’s suitable for more normal or dry skin rather than an oilier skin!

[…] I always love a chemical exfoliant in addition to a physical exfoliator. This one contains 2% Beta Hydroxy Acid to unclog pores, smooth wrinkles, and brighten and even out skin tone, AKA everything that I need. I am going to be 25 in a couple of months here (omg) so anti-aging skincare is about to become my best friend. That is a scary thought. Read the full review here. […]
