I love a good deal, I really do. Especially when it’s a good deal on something that is a basic necessity and not very exciting. In my opinion, that is blending sponges. I need them every couple of months (or weeks) but they’re just not a fun purchase. And why do they have to be so dang expensive? $26CAD for a single Beauty Blender? That’s just outrageous. I can’t do it. I’m too cheap, okay?
That’s why I absolutely love when Quo comes out with their blending sponge sets at Christmas time (check out my review on the 2016 set here). They’re usually a set of five different sponges for $15-$30. This year’s set is consistent with previous years’ and contains five red and pink sponges in a cute Christmas Cracker-esque box. It retailed for $25CAD which is already a good deal (making each sponge a mere $5) but I got mine on a Boxing Day sale for only $10. $2 a sponge?! Yes please. That is the kind of deal that I love.
There are five different shapes in this set that are all purposed for something different. There is my favorite, the egg-shaped one with a little cinched center that makes it easy to hold. I use the flatter end of this one for patting in my foundation. There is also the traditional egg one without a cinched middle that is also ideal for blending in foundation. I love to use the two with more pointy ends for patting in concealer as they can reach the tiny lil’ crevices on my face. And lastly, the unique diamond looking one is my favorite for baking with a powder and setting my face.
One question that I get a ton is if these Quo sponges compare to the original Beauty Blender sponges. I have tried a lot of knock-off blending sponges over the years and the vast majority have been a disappointment (I would not recommend the Miniso ones even though they are only a couple of bucks). However, Quo is one brand of sponges that I find are very similar to Beauty Blenders (in addition to Real Techniques and EcoTools). They are the perfect combination of soft and squishy but also dense enough to hold their shape and buff in foundation. I like to use them wet OR dry depending how much coverage I want my foundation to be that day.
In my experience (working seven years at Shoppers Drug Mart), these blending sponge sets usually sell out so quickly so if you see one left at your local store, I would definitely pick one up! I have enough blending sponges in storage to last me all of 2020 now (I’m not a hoarder, I swear) so that makes me a very happy gal. No spending full price on a Beauty Blender!
