Self Care Essentials During A Pandemic

2020 will be dubbed the year of self-care, not the year of the pandemic. To put it bluntly, a lot of shit has gone down this year and I’m sure the majority of you would agree that taking the time for self-care is more important now than ever. At the start of the pandemic, back in March, I tried to resist the notion of self-care. I thought I was above it. I didn’t think I needed to take care of myself. I thought I could just keep living life normally and I would be fine. It wasn’t until the six month mark hit of living in quarantine that I realized I wasn’t fine. I couldn’t pretend like everything was great and dandy in the world. And so, I had to take a look at myself and my life and make some changes. I had to really start taking care of myself. And although this post is about the simple and materialistic aspects of self care, remember that this is just the start. Self care involves so many different things from focusing on what you love to working out to doing things that better your life. And sometimes, those things aren’t as fun as taking a bubble bath. But they’re necessary and you have to remember that. But, this post is about how you can take some time to yourself and indulge in some of the simpler and much needed acts of self care so here ya go!

Provoke Touch of Silver Strengthening Purple Shampoo & Conditioner

Provoke Touch of Silver Strengthening Purple Shampoo and Conditioner review

I always feel a thousand times better when I have freshly washed hair (which is only about once a week, hehe). This Touch of Silver purple shampoo and conditioner ($11.99CAD) from Provoke is best suited for blonde, platinum, grey and white hair and although my hair ranges from a dark blonde to a light brunette depending on the day (and if I have washed it recently or not), I still really love this shampoo and conditioner duo. It’s a strengthening formula that repairs damaged hair strands, leaving it feeling healthy, supple and restored. Plus it neutralizes any brassy tones. And because my hair is a bit darker than their target market, the change is definitely minimal but noticeable. I find that it keeps my hair looking healthy, bright and shiny without any warm yellow undertones to it.

Unic Vanilla Gourmande Hair Perfume & Invisibobble Slim Hair Rings

Unic Eau de Parfume Vanilla Gourmande

When I received this Unic Vanilla Gourmande hair perfume ($8.99CAD), I thought it would be just like any other hair mist. A sickly sweet vanilla that smelled like it came straight out of Bath and Body Works’ Warm Vanilla Sugar vault (no shade against BBW, I still love it). But this hair perfume absolutely nailed this Vanilla Gourmande scent. It smells exactly like my favorite perfume: Lancome La Tresor Nuit. I actually gasped the first time I sprayed this on my hair because I was so shocked with how good it smelled. It doesn’t smell like a cheap vanilla whatsoever. Plus, it’s enriched with silk protein extracts to leave your hair soft, shiny and silky!

I’m also a huge fan of these Invisibobble Hair Rings ($11CAD/$8USD). I have been using these hair ties for as long as I can remember. I haven’t used an actual hair elastic since I was eighteen. I’m twenty-five now. You do the math. These are the new Slim style that are skinnier than the OG hair rings but are just as good. They create a strong grip on the hair but don’t leave any dents in your hair when you take it out. Plus the colour of this set is so pretty! The Bronze Me Pretty shade is a gold metallic that gives a subtle sparkly pop to your hair!

7th Heaven Sheet Masks

You really can’t indulge in any form of self-care without face masks. Nothing makes me feel calmer than a good sheet mask. And I absolutely love these ones from 7th Heaven. The first two are both animal printed face masks which really spooks out my dog when I put them on. I always think Oakley is a smart pup but he still does not comprehend this whole face mask concept. The Panda Face Mask contains coconut and bananas to hydrate and moisturize the skin and the Kitten face Mask has cucumber and aloe to soothe, soften and hydrate the skin! The third mask is a little bit more grown-up as it’s infused with CBD (as well as vitamin E and sweet almond oil) to help help maintain radiance in your skin, revitalizes fatigued skin and keeps it hydrated for up to 24 hours. Ah yes, CBD oil really is magical.

Mika Foam Soap & Bubble T Bath Pearls

Mika foam soap wild watermelon review

Okay, wow. I feel like a little kid again with this Mika Foam Soap ($4.99CAD) and I absolutely love it. It’s a foamy soap spray that is free from any sulphates, parabens, and phthalates. Think of it like a body wash but in shaving cream form. Don’t even try to pretend that you don’t like the texture of shaving cream. So fluffy yet surprisingly dense. And the scent! The Wild Watermelon fragrance is too good. I wish they would make more adult toiletries in a watermelon scent. It truly is the superior artificial fruit scent. But if you’re not the biggest fan of watermelons (who ARE you?!), this Foam Soap is also available in grape, green apple, blueberry, very berry, orange, raspberry lime and bubble gum. Yes, all the scents that an 8 year old would love. Coincidentally, also all the scents that 25 year old Taylor would love.

These Bubble T Bath Pearls are also a perfect addition to your bath time routine. These are such a cool concept and fit perfectly with Bubble T’s whole branding scheme (get it? Bubble TEA. Boba? These look like boba? Capiche?). These bath pearls are filled with oil to cleanse and nourish the skin, while also adding a sweet fragrance! This scent, Hibiscus & Açai Berry Tea, with notes of cranberry, wild strawberry, white tea and goji berry creates the ultimate fresh and fruity combination. All you have to do is drop one to two pearls into your warm bath so they burst and release a nourishing and sweetly scented oil!

Foamie Berry Shower Sponge

Foamie Shower Sponge review

This is another super fun bath or shower addition! The Foamie Shower Sponge ($15.89CAD) is a two-in-one shower essential that combines a sponge and cleanser into one. And it’s good for the environment! It has an integrated foaming cleanser so you can save a third of your plastic usage (vs a regular shower gel bottle) in your daily showering routine. Each sponge is good for approximately 30 washes. You just have to get it really wet, squeeze it to activate the foaming cleanser and then, after cleansing your body, you can rinse it and hang it to dry! The sponge massages and nourishes with a skin-optimized pH cleanser and the scent, like all the other scents featured in this post, is heavenly. It has notes of magnolia and raspberry so of course, I love it.
