In all my years of wearing makeup, I’ve always loved to mix and match drugstore makeup with more high end, luxurious beauty. And I’m sure a lot of you have also noticed that over the years, drugstore makeup has really stepped it up. No longer is there a drastic difference between what the quality of products found at Shoppers Drug Mart versus what is available at Sephora. However, I must say that some of the prices of drugstore makeup has really increased to match the upgrade in quality. But, regardless of that, here are some of my recent drugstore makeup favorites!
Native Deodorant in Black Oak & Amber ($13USD/$21CAD)
I feel like Native is really revolutionizing the natural deodorant world. The sleek packaging combined with the multitude of fun and exciting scents, and the incredible formulation is really starting to compete with a more traditional antiperspirant. Instead of aluminum, Native deodorant contains baking soda to provide all day odor protection. And although it is effective, I do find I can only use this deodorant on the days when I know I won’t be sweating a huge amount. It also contains coconut oil and shea butter to give a super smooth, non-greasy application with no residue. And the scent! The Black Oak and Amber is a deliciously sweet but spicy combination. I love it!
e.l.f. C-Bright Putty Primer ($12USD/$16CAD)
I always go back and forth with primers. Some days I feel like they’re an essential step in my makeup routine and others, they seem a little bit useless to me. But this e.l.f. C-Bright Putty Primer has numerous benefits in one so it doesn’t feel like a waste to put it on my skin. It’s infused with 2% Vitamin C to brighten and even out your skin tone, while giving it a healthy, radiant finish. It also has a lovely velvety putty formula to smooth over the skin while gripping onto makeup for all-day wear!
e.l.f. Halo Glow Blush Beauty Wand in Rosé You Slay ($9USD/$12CAD)
There is quite possibly nothing better than a shimmery, highlighting blush. I’ve never been much of a matte girl and that definitely applies to my taste in blushes as well. This e.l.f. Blush Beauty Wand is a close dupe to the beloved Charlotte Tilbury version, but for a fraction of the price. It’s cushion-tip applicator dispenses the product nicely (although I still use a seperate blush brush to buff it all in), while the liquid formula is easy to melt and blend into the skin. The formulation is also infused with 2% squalane, keeping your cheeks smooth and hydrated. The Rosé You Slay shade is the most gorgeous rose gold colour with the perfect amount of highlight and illumination.
L’Oreal Voluminous Original Mascara in Deep Burgundy ($11USD/$14CAD)
My obsession with burgundy makeup all started with a L’Oreal burgundy liquid eyeliner. I was surprised to learn how nicely burgundy compliments green eyes and ever since then, I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate the colour more into my makeup routine. And that’s where this L’Oreal mascara comes in. It’s the tried and true Voluminous Mascara, but in a gorgeous deep burgundy colour. I love wearing this mascara on it’s own for a lighter, less intense eye look, or overtop of black mascara to really deepen my lashes, but still add a hint of burgundy! It’s fun!
Covergirl Exhibitionist by Kelsea Ballerini Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow in Glitter Up ($13USD/$16CAD)
Glitter eyeshadow- anothing thing I’ve loved for many years now. Whenever I’m looking to spice up my eye makeup for date night, a wedding, or a party, adding a little sparkle to my lids is always my go-to. Instead of swiping the wand across my eyes for a more pigmented glitter look, I instead dab the wand on my finger first and then dab my finger on the center of my eyes to disperse the glitter. It ends up being very subtle but still catching the light wherever I go! I especially love the Covergirl Exhibitionist Kelsea Ballerini Glitter Eyeshadow in the shade, Glitter Up. It’s light, bright, and wears well throughout the day!
e.l.f. Game Up Bonus Points Lip Gloss Mask in Royal Peach ($6USD/$10CAD)
It’s been a cold, cold winter here in Alberta, so it’s definitely no surprise that my lips are dry and peeling and flaking and cracking. And this e.l.f. Lip Gloss Mask has been working overtime to try to help repair my lips. It’s infused with hyaluronic acid to help hydrate lips and leave them soft and plump. And, because it’s also double as a lip gloss, it also delivers a slight glossy peach tint to the lips.
