I have been wanting to dress Oakley up as a ghost for forever! It was probably the main reason I got a goldendoodle eight years ago. Nah, I’m kidding. But I always thought he would look absolutely adorable as a ghost for Halloween. There was just one major problem. Oakley doesn’t like sitting still. He is full of energy and happiness and loves to roll around in the leaves. It’s hard enough to make him sit still for photos on a good day but if you add in throwing a sheet over him with holes cut out for his muzzle and eyes, that’s just a recipe for disaster. And yet, here he is, being the cutest ghost in the world.

I feel like Oakley almost knows that it’s his job to sit still for photos. He has been in the majority of my blog posts ever since he was just a wee lil’ pup so at this point, it almost comes naturally to him that if there’s a camera pointed at him and I’m telling him to sit and stay, he just listens and cooperates. Sure, he will still stubbornly point his face away from the camera even though I’m constantly cooing at him and calling his name, but at least he sits still. He really is the world’s best dog. I am so grateful for him, not just cause he indulges me in my crazy Halloween costume ideas, but because he has always been there for me these past eight years. We’re attached at the hip and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love you little man.

So, I guess I should fill you in on the secret of how I made these DIY ghost costumes for myself and Oakley. Well, if you didn’t guess it already, it’s pretty damn simple. I went to Walmart and got two twin size bed sheets (i probably would have gotten a double or queen size for me but they were all sold out, probably due to everyone else wanting to be ghosts this Halloween). They were only $9.97 each, an absolute bargain! I also picked up some Coconut Eggnog (it’s never too early for eggnog) but that’s besides the point. I then cut Oakley’s bed sheet in half as it was far too long for him. Then, with great difficulty, I placed the bed sheet over his head to see where I would need to cut holes for his lil’ nose and eyes. The nose was the easy part. The eyes were not. I may or may not have poked him in the eye several times but I can assure you, no dogs were harmed in the making of these costumes. And so, snip, snip, snip. And done. We have a ghost costume for the cutest dog in the world. We did a similar thing with mine although mine didn’t come out nearly as cute. But alas, I guess we’re not all destined to be cute ghosts. I’ll try again next year.
