We’re coming in hot with yet another skincare post on ze blog! And today’s post is an exciting one. I have been stubbornly avoiding trying The Inkey List for the past couple of years, ever since they started being carried at Shoppers Drug Mart and then later moved to Sephora. My reason for boycotting them was simple- I thought they were a bootleg version of The Ordinary. And you have to admit I wasn’t totally off my rocker for thinking that. The simplistic packaging, the (very) affordable price point and the highlighting of active ingredients was (and still is) just a little too similar to The Ordinary. But I’m glad I got over it and gave them a try because I think I just found my new favorite cleanser.
I ordered both the Fulvic Acid Brightening Cleanser as well as the Salicylic Acid Cleanser because I really wasn’t sure which one I would like better. Shall we start with the best or leave that until last? Yeah, let’s start with my favorite one. The Fulvic Acid Brightening Cleanser ($10.99USD/$13.99CAD) is a gel cleanser that gently cleanses and exfoliates the skin. It’s designed for any skin type and battles dark spots, dullness, as well as uneven texture. To help with that, this cleanser contains three key ingredients. First is the fulvic acid. This cleanser contains 0.5% Nordic Peat derived from fulvic acid and helps to gently exfoliate the skin. Next is the 1.5% Kakadu Plum Extract that nourishes the skin. And last, is the 1% Licorice Root Extract to reduce the look of hyperpigmentation and brighten and even out the skin tone. But don’t be fooled by the words “acid” and “exfoliate”. This cleanser is so gentle, you can even use it on your eyes to remove any eye makeup! It’s honestly the best everyday cleanser ever. It’s gentle, doesn’t strip or dry out my skin and it’s super affordable! 10/10, Inkey List. You’ve impressed me.
But you know what unfortunately didn’t impress me? The Inkey List Salicylic Acid Cleanser ($9.99USD/$12.99CAD). This was the one I was really excited about so it was even more disappointing when it didn’t live up to my expectations. This one is a gel cleanser as well but it foams up a bit more than the Fulvic Acid Brightening Cleanser. It’s better suited for more oily or combination skin because of the salicylic acid. It contains 2% salicylic acid that helps to exfoliate the skin as well as unclogs the pores and dislodges dead skin cells. Zinc Compound also helps to reduce excess sebum and soothes the skin with it’s anti-inflammatory properties. Lastly the 0.5% Allantoin helps to soothe irritation and stimulates the growth of healthy skin tissue. But although this cleanser is excellent at providing oil-control and reducing blackheads and breakouts, I found that it was just way too drying for my skin. My face felt so stripped of all it’s natural oils afterwards. It just wasn’t a good feeling. So I guess it’s safe to say that the Inkey List Fulvic Acid Brightening Cleanser is by far my favorite over the Salicylic Acid Cleanser!
