Fancy Pants

The weirdest feeling is knowing that school starts in less than a week but I won’t be going back. For the first time in nineteen years, I don’t have a first day of school. There’s no picking out a first day of school outfit. There’s no school supply shopping. There’s no meal prepping. There’s no making last minute changes to my class schedule. There’s absolutely none of that. It still doesn’t feel real. I keep thinking that this is just an extra long summer and I’ll be going back to school in a month or so. But nope. This is my last summer I’ll ever have“off”. I’m about to be a working gal. Finally stepping out into the real world. For old times sake, please relive my first day of school OOTD’s with these gems:

So, unfortunately there will be no first day of school outfit this year. But in my dream world, if I was going back to school, maybe it would look something like this. However, I’d swap out the heels for more practical shoes. I’m not the type of student to be struggling walking around campus when there’s studying to be done! However, I was the type to dress up a bit more for school than your average college student so I’d probably still wear these pants to school. I’ve gotten my fair share of stares and eye rolls at my over-the-top outfits over the years.

So, let’s talk about these pants. They’re from Topshop and they’re a little… much. My dad says these are the pants a stilt-walker would wear at a circus. I’m taking that as a compliment because he probably meant that my pants make my legs look hella long. But jokes aside, the pants do look like they belong in a circus I must admit. They’re practically clown apparel. But there was just something about the bright yellow (not even mustard yellow – shocking!) and green stripes down the legs that just drew me to them. Again, they’re one of those things that are just so ugly, they’re cute. Right? Please tell me I’m right.

Because my pants on the crazier side, the rest of my outfit is very, very neutral and downplayed. I’m wearing a black cami from Zara that’s tucked in to not add any extra bulk to the pants and a (fake) leather jacket that always seems to match everything. My heels are chunky block heels from Steve Madden that are totally necessary because these pants would be way too long if I was just wearing sandals or mules or flats or boots or sneakers (you get the point, I’m short). I’m honestly not sure when (or if) I’m going to wear these pants again. They definitely have a time and a place but I don’t know if that exists in my life. I’ll keep you updated.
